Raising Dion

Those grown-ups toggling around for a weekend binge who think “Dion” seems a bit young for them are almost certainly correct. But those families that spend time learning about Dion and his world will not be disappointed. Indeed, they’ll likely be ready for a second season even before the first ends. Dion’s powers include, for those at his age level and eager to explore their own abilities of empathy and curiosity, extreme watchability.

The show is a bit of a tonal jumble. In trying to do many things at once, “Raising Dion” can feel wayward and messy; it suffers fits of sentimentality, not always well-controlled. And yet what’s ungainly about the series is also what makes it interesting and distinguishes it from the great mass of high-gloss superhero adventures, with their tortured heroes and tortured villains, their supersized scale and Kevlar aesthetic.

Raising Dion isn’t perfect, but the season breezed by for me. And it’s a show made by people with obvious affection for comics — each episode title is inspired by a famous comic-book storyline or phrase, like “Days of Mark’s Future Past” or “You Won’t Like Him When He’s Angry” — who feel no need to apologize for that love.

Overall, Raising Dion makes for an exciting children’s show about tapping into your power in order to make the world a better place. With more focus and a little more nerve, the show could make incredible leaps and bounds.

There might not be much, narratively, that is new to adult viewers – but is there ever? Still, it is a fresh twist and the evocation of incorruptible Spielbergian innocence that is maintained by centring the show on such young protagonists is restorative to the ageing, battered soul, even if the head cries out that it could have been compressed into six episodes to no detriment and probably quite some benefit.

None of this is breaking the mold in a big way, but “Raising Dion” isn’t aiming for original artistry at all costs. It wants to entertain, please, and maybe ever-so-slightly inform. Even with all the overt manipulations, this Netflix drama feels good-intentioned.

A show that's a complete mess almost from the first moments it comes on your screen. ... Nobody acts like an actual person. They act like they are in a sitcom or a weak drama.

Amazing i can’t wait for a season 2 i really do hope it gets renewed. The cast was amazing. The story line was great and I was hooked from the very beginning

I liked most of the show, as well as the ideas behind it but it was ruined by Dion's mom. The way she raised Dion would more likely make him a villain. Well raised 8 yr old kids don't act up and ignore their parents that much. Also, letting him run off on his own at a dangerous lake, not disciplining him when he completely ignores her, giving in to his temper **** that is all before the powers show. Once they appear she ignores advice from others and tries to seclude him and get him to force everything into a metaphoric bottle where he would never learn control. The story idea is fantastic and Dion could have been built a log **** she was even a decent parent.

Great family show , with a great cast and **** need more creative family shows like this.

This series started out well, shows a nice family with some drama and interest. At first I thought this would be a good series for younger kids maybe as young as 7, unfortunately it turns political so I wouldn’t recommend it unless they were at least 13. It’s very unfortunate because the story did not need the political stuff to be interesting. I watched the 1st season but that’s it for me I can do without more indoctrination from the left.
