Prosecuting Casey Anthony

Even though you come away with no new insight into the case, the fine performances by Lowe,Revolution's Elizabeth Mitchell (as another prosecutor), and The Office's Oscar Nuñez (as Anthony's lawyer) make this TV movie far more compelling than you'd expect.

A surprisingly revisionist take on one of the most controversial trials of the decade.

The telepic has an old-fashioned quality, from building the movie around one of the ostensible good guys (Anthony, played by Virginia Welch, is featured only sparingly) to the prosecution assembling its case to the simple yet effective urgency of Richard Marvin's score.

There isn't much suspense in the script, nor are there surprising revelations about what happened.

As actors, Lowe and Mitchell are burdened with shamelessly expository dialogue in which they must pretend to talk to each other when they're actually just explaining the case to viewers.

While Prosecuting Casey Anthony does a decent job of re-creating the trial and media frenzy surrounding it, it fails to offer theories as to why the jury didn't convict her of murder.

None of this ever threatens to break into an interesting character study or story or examination of ideas.
