To say it can be a little corny and sentimental, though usually with a joke to pull things back from the brink of mawkishness, is only to say it has heart; in any case, it worked on me visually and emotionally, as thoroughly on a second viewing as on the first. ... The series is also full of death and darkness, and no less moving for being set in a world where death is not the end. Quite the opposite: the story bends toward transcendence — and gets there.

In its most basic iteration, “Maya and the Three” could have been a cute enough story of a plucky girl who saves the world. What a treat, then, to watch as the show digs deeper, reaches farther, and takes bigger leaps to explore more complicated terrain. It’s an epic, in all senses of the word, with a palpable love for its world that proves hard to resist.

The visuals are enough to keep viewers off their phones for all nine episodes, but the plot is compelling too, even for grown-ups. ... “Maya and the Three” is a testament to Latino, and specifically Mexican aesthetics, values, and culture. It pushes what a kids show can be, challenging others to rise to its visual and storytelling standard.

Start watching Maya and the Three for the action-packed and visually creative fights, but stay for the poignant character arcs that build up to a satisfying ending.

Maya And The Three works on two levels: Battle scenes and colorful animation for the kids, goofy jokes and a good story for the adults.

Tiene sus cosas, de las cuales hablaré más adelante. Pero en línea general fue una buena miniserie. Personajes sólidos, historia interesante y que para nada se vuelve pesada. Dura lo que tiene que durar y punto, no se alarga con factores sin sentido y elementos secundarios. Lo único que no me gusta y es algo que veo mucho en las series actuales, es la necesidad de matar personajes todo el tiempo. Hoy en día se piensa que por matar personajes principales o interesantes son transgresores, lo cual en muchas ocasiones y como es en el caso de juego de tronos era válido, porque los personajes pagaban caro las metidas de pata. Pero en muchas situaciones se deja en evidencia que se matan personajes por no saber cómo manejar ese marco argumental o mejor dicho, como los personajes se tendrían que adaptar a ese nuevo cambio(lo cual, en muchos casos es muy interesante, porque permite la posibilidad de desarrollar más al personaje). Otra cosa que note y esto es a mi parecer, es que los personajes son estáticos, en el sentido de que no veo una evolución, un cambio de los mismos. Siguen siendo iguales desde que aparecen hasta que termina la serie, salvo alguna que otra modificación pequeña.
