Great News may never be the successor to “30 Rock” many hoped it would be, nor the second coming that its sophomore season bluntly tries to take by force, but there are enough laughs to match the talent involved. The well-utilized cast is charming, the writing a bit sharper, and, oddly enough, the arcs feel more original.

It has all of the ingredients to work and seems enriched a bit by the #FakeNews drama at the start of season two.

The jokes are a lot stronger than last season. Briga Heelan is a treasure and a master of delivery. Is it a poor man's 30 Rock, sure, but it's still funny. I am getting tired of all the super broad British jokes. They're kind of British racist. Also, if the season finale was any indicator, I hope their not making a habit of having the show in danger for every finale.

The first season of Great News had its issues but generally made for an enjoyable watch and, with all the recent goings on in the world of media and politics providing plenty of material, this second season is able to build upon it and again provide some fairly consistent laughs. The addition of Tina Fey as a semi-regular cast member is also most welcome.

Mildly entertaining in the most predictable ways. Very little smart writing or acting found here, The characters are poor stereotypes of stereotypes we’ve seen before, so nothing rings true or is of any great interest. Might keep watching because it is neither controversial or offensive, but won’t miss it when the network finally realizes how bad this really is and moves on. Remember the Mary Tyler Moore show? That is gold standard to which TV newsroom comedies should be compared. Compared to MTM, this show is pathetic and not funny!!!
