Flaked is to be commended for really capturing its setting, shooting very clearly on location and focusing on the issues facing this community right now.

When the plot finally kicks in in the back half of the season, the unexpected shift in tone is intended to show how Chip’s apparently pointless life is the result of outside forces, but the series of twists (one clumsily telegraphed, the other a bit less so) don’t so much fill out the character as underscore how thin he was in the first place.

This is an outstanding, character driven dark comedy. It has more humanity and insight than 98% of the shows currently available, and still manages to capture the interest. More like a long film than a TV show, I believe the hate is mostly based on the show's bait and switch -- the title and intro segment are accurate representations of the show's content, but only ironically. If that sounds interesting, and if you'd like to watch a charming man peel away the layers of his self-deception, watch this beautiful show.

Flacked is a trip to the world the part of Venice CA, with its special vibe. The story of Chip, who is in search of his place in the world, but due to his innocence almost infantile Chip is seen in the midst **** confusion generated by the entiras that he himself tells to remain as a respected guy in his community.

The series gets more substantive and quicker starting in Episode 6, but over all the pieces--man-boys on the prowl, bromance, occasional forays into seriousness--fit together uncomfortably.

[Netflix's Love] at least felt fresh and directed in the way it surgically examined the tropes of the romantic comedy. It was a character study that had a purpose, explaining through its run why we were watching these characters to begin with. Flaked never answers that question.

Flaked offers up weak jokes and even weaker drama, as later episodes pile on contrived, overwrought plot twists.

There are a couple of love triangles at work, but the characters have been written only in terms of metaphor and irony, so nobody has any chemistry, which is probably also an irony, though it's less likely to be intentional. Or maybe it is intentional? Flaked feels primarily like a writing exercise for Arnett and Chappell.

The premium TV world is a magnet for vanity projects, but few are as pointless--or unnecessary--as this one.... Flaked is such a flavorless affair that there’s scant suspense about the ongoing story, leaving little over which to get excited other than a series of guest-star-punctuated interludes.

The general disapprobation for this show is indicative of the low tolerance in our day for complex writing and nuanced character sketches. Slow to start and slow to develop, this jewel flies over the head of the fidget spinner ADD generation.

I'm having trouble understanding people's burning hatred of this show. I've read a lot of reviews where people just despise the fact it's centered around white men. It pains me to give it a luke warm review because I'd rather go against the grain of all these hot heads who don't really understand the concept. At it's core, Flaked is about dealing with all types of failure. It actually picks up Bojack Horseman's baton and people couldn't get enough of that show. The trouble is, it lacks intensity. It's clever writing. It just never pops.

Here is my take on Flaked. In the beginning it seemed and looked as tho Will had finally gotten casts for a great well written miniseries, not until the maybe episode 5 6 that I realized i was actually watching the washed down poor mans version of Californication. I still finished the season.

It might be accurate to the bums that live in Venice, but that doesn't make it watchable. It's just not funny nor is there any drama. Either make the characters more douchy/funny or have some kind of heartbeat. Is anybody buying that Will Arnett could land those girls? I'm not.

Bad enough of a show, made worse by knowledge that Will Arnett has relapsed because of it. I hope with every fiber of my being that he comes to his senses and drops this. If not, I hope Netflix cancels it.
