Beast Games

Whereas it once felt like all of this show’s challenges were emanating from the same place they do on Jimmy Donaldson’s YouTube channel, with others doing them instead of MrBeast himself, Season 2 of Beast Games feels better positioned inside what we all understand as contemporary reality competition.

We’re tempted to say SKIP IT, mainly because we hate that Beast Games takes advantage of people’s greed and/or desperation for drama. But the second episode shows that the game will start getting really fun as we get down to a manageable group of contestants, and a lot of that is thanks to the enthusiasm of MrBeast and his hoodie-wearing buddies.

There is entertainment value in all of this, even if it’s the kind of entertainment that makes you feel kind of grimy while watching it. .... Many of the challenges aren’t that dissimilar from those you might see on Survivor or Wipeout. Most of them have darker psychological elements that force contestants to test the limits of their own selfishness, often turning the show into what feels like a high-stakes social experiment.

As much as it hopes to smarten up its act, Beast Games feels like the TV equivalent of the sad Christmas fair where an ailing horse is given some antlers and told to look lively. It is fairly cruel, sure, but it’s also incredibly turgid – and maybe that’s worse.

True, there is something weirdly compelling about Beast Games, but it is compelling in the same way that picking a scab is. It exists solely to show us the worst of the human condition, as obnoxiously as possible.

The insipid Mr Beast is joined by a rotating cast of flunkies – apparently regulars on his YouTube channel. There is little danger of them overshadowing their boss, however, as they get hardly any screen time. Nor do the contestants, who we meet in a dizzying blur of fast edits. The focus is almost entirely on Donaldson.

It’s largely dull and without much of anything to get invested in, relying on constantly shouting at us about the stakes while frenetic editing slices everything to pieces. It’s about what you’d expect from an ever-hustling spectacle merchant like MrBeast, but that only makes it all the more exhausting to take in.

It was alright. Its basically mrbeast but on tv, which means there is still yelling, which is annoying sometimes. Some parts feel scripted, but less than not. The challenges are a little dull at times. Most of them are similar types and this repetitivness is the biggest negative aspect of beast games. In contrast, I feel like beast games builds suspense well, which for me I like.

I liked watching the character development and I thought the people on the show were endearing for the most part. It did appear that karma played out quite a few times which was nice to see. However, I think MrBeast is sadistic and borders on sociopathic. He is disgusting to watch.

The contestants probably have better odds gambling for 5 million dollars than participaiting in this game show. Every episode has multiple “challenges” that have nothing to do with skill, but either luck or the motivations of other players which is very infuriating since selfish people are rewarded while potentially skilled and competent contestants pay for it. The only good parts of this show is when they come up with an actual original game that is all skill and team based. Very disappointed in how unfair this show is.

Beast games is watching Jimmy prove he is a soulless hack who can barely think of quality games for a game show. He loves watching people betray their friends because he has none.
