Horrible, how is this in the same universe as Bosch? This show is like a bunch of women Karen's or male feminists simping for women empowerment. If Bosch was the original Star Wars trilogy, and Bosch Legacy the Lucas prequels, Ballard is like Star Wars Acolyte... Which was a horrible show as well. I can't believe that I sat through the entire series... The big payoff is the reason women were being killed is because they were getting promoted and the killer hated women being on top... The characters feel plastic, Maggie Q acts like she is in a soap opera. The Woke is so on the nose. I hope the put out another season so Amazon loses a crap ton of money on this garbage. It is the only way they learn.

Cannot believe it’s RT100%. Script is terrible as is the acting. Also boring. Back to Britbox!

Such a disappointing follow up to Bosch. The characters are so bland and one-dimensional. There is no depth or intrigue, all of their motivations are so transparent right from the outset. It's all just cliche upon cliche, with no surprises. Terrible show.

I've liked Michael Connelly's books but didn't like the Ballard series because her sexual proclivities were front and center. This series changes that. I've never found Maggie Q's acting too realistic and her role as an Amazon woman, who can kick 6'4" guys butts rather offputting. Other than that, the story keeps my interest and the pace didn't keep me from watching. This is a moderately entertaining series but the end, of course, was pretty unrealistic and stupid. We'd rate this: "go ahead and watch if you're a Michael Connelly fan but there are much better police procedurals out there."

Ballard is a pedestrian police procedural that would have fit in with the network cop shows of the **** plot is less than compelling

This feels like bad network television. Gone are the grit and gray hues that helped make Bosch believable. The images are too crisp, too saturated and too pretty. It looks like an entirely new crew got hired to make this utterly vanhilla entry. And I had some hope for it after the final episode of Bosch Legacy. Total letdown.

(EDIT: tried watching again (I REALLY want to like this show)... but the result is to lower my score... This is an awful show that emphasizes all the bad things streaming studios are doing to ruin great stories and great characters.... Find better actors, stick to the book's characters/plot and add SOME pacing? Oh - find writers who can create dialogue that doesn't make my ears hurt... ) So a little mea-culpa here... I've read the books so my perspective is very different than non-readers. The TV-Ballard character(s) are nothing like the book-Ballard characters. That in itself doesn't have to be problematic. However - in this case Maggie Q is SO much unlike the Ballard character you just can't look past it. I can't imagine that she/writer's/director even acknowledge who this character is? The supporting cast is generally awful, even if they were like the characters in the book... again - if they captured even a sniff of the book's characters it might be ok. ... and I hate to be that guy - but why do characters have to be re-gender/racified? Wouldn't be so bad if they just changed the race of a character but the race AND gender... and with that - basically a completely different invention of a character? Just stop. If I wasn't an avid fan of the books - I'd still hate this show. I've seen Maggie Q in several shows and while she is great to look at, I don't think she brings much to any character I've seen her try to be. Beyond her failure to be a viable 'Ballard', the rest of the cast is worse. Throw in bad dialogue (horribly bad - police procedural cliche' bad...) with bad acting... ... bottom line - book reader or not - this show is pretty unwatchable. And to answer everyone else's question... why are critics giving this great reviews? The answer to all your question is money.

Do not understand all the great critic reviews. Mostly poorly acted definitely poorly paced (directed). Lead not believable and seems miscast. Police procedural with a not believable killer. At least one episode is fiiler having nothing to do with the story. Why do so many American series go for quantity (10 episodes here) when the British go for quality (like 4 or so episodes)? Oh yeah the mighty American dollar. Hey critics, look at the User reviews. We know what we like. My rating C- with one episode a total failure.

I had high hopes considering considering the average critic review, but I am finding the dialogue stilted and the characters irritating.

Lightweight and shallow, will have you missing Bosch even more than before.

Feels like D-team writers from Bosch were asked to come up with the storyline for this lifeless TV show. The acting from the lead is awfully weak and overall it feels completely absent of any verve, spark or even a bit of humor. We got bored, glancing at our phones for a distraction, so we turned it off during the 3rd episode.

I watched the first episode. I like the lead, but the show is meh. The characters are lifeless.
