When 'local legend' Laurie Nicholls dies, his son Stephen finally gets the chance to run the family pub - for which he has ambitious plans. But the reappearance of his foster-brother Andrew at the funeral complicates matters.

The sibling rivalry ramps up a gear as Stephen's ex (and the family lawyer) Alison reveals the contents of Laurie's will. The pub is in debt, Andrew has been left a share in the business and Ellen decides to join the church.

The foster-brothers are visiting the pub's suppliers and spreading news of Laurie's death. In trying to help Stephen get over Alison, Andrew reveals a shocking truth. Geoff has been left in charge of the pub and takes it back to the 70s.

The family begin the clear up after a disastrous fire in the pub.
