The soul of the show, though, is its conflicted "heroes," truly tortured, in palpable ways, recalling the best, early days of NBC's ill-fated Monday comic book. There's no cartoonery here. Just adult adventure and angst.

The premiere drops enough intriguing hints about the players' pasts without distracting from the main plot. You can't have a team without conflict, and every character seems to carry a quirk that rubs the others the wrong way.

Oh dear, I had high hopes of this but I gave up after watching 3 episodes. The premise is interesting, the writing, direction and special effects are good but the annoying minor actors (minor to me) are just too much to bear with their endless childishness - ****

Writers: Consistently writing fast pace, interesting, dynamic story lines. In almost every episode I am blind sided by some crazy realization or action sequence. They are fantastic at presenting characters and their abilities and the science behind it allâ

At first blush, though, give Alphas high marks for effort and ingenuity, demonstrating a TV show needn't provide major pyrotechnics or a reinvented wheel to lay the groundwork for solid summer entertainment where the characters, somewhat refreshingly, are only sort-of super.

Alphas is fun, sure, but it has a "been there, done that" feel.

Alphas is hardly the alpha show in this supernatural-hero genre, but it's still engaging.

Of course, it's a coup for SyFy to snag Strathairn for the new series, but this is very much an ensemble piece. The other performers are all great at being unlikely and, at times, downright cranky heroes. Still, while their crankiness is initially appealing, it could wear thin pretty quickly unless they are given really smart crimes to solve.

Their take on human nature may develop, but right now it's cartoonish in the worst way and too reminiscent of similar shows.

Fun series about government sponsored group of believable characters with special abilities that use them for good despite questionable interference from government agency overseeing them. Good characters, plots and acting.

The plot seemed really interesting but the actual show leaves more to be desired. Worth a watch right now since there isn't much on tele but I wouldn't put this on my all time favourites listing just yet ;)

Characters have no charisma at all! They can be so annoying as they're always **** amongst each other with no specific reason, and at the end of the 5th episode I confess I can't even remember all their names! It's so boring...

I really wanted to like this show, love David Strathairn, and after this last episode, a resounding NO. It's Wanted meets Fringe but not nearly as good as the movie or tv show. Nothing is original about this show. The last show was 28 days later, down to the SAME exact music, very sad, very sad
