Wicked

The plot is so rich and eventful, and the script so witty, that the movie doesn’t drag once the extended flashback starts. Moreover, every moment is eye candy. The screen bursts with whimsical costumes (by Paul Tazewell) and sets (Nathan Crowley is the production designer), and all of the important roles are impeccably cast.

Wicked is a well-oiled machine in the hands of Jon M. Chu. This film adaptation epitomizes what modern movie musicals can and should be, embracing its source material while cleverly translating it to screen. Tear-jerking performances by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo make the movie, playing to their individual strengths to bring to life the rapport between Glinda and Elphaba, who’ll go on to become the good and wicked witches of Wizard of Oz fame. If as many people love this film as much as I did, Wicked will undoubtedly immortalize the Grande and Erivo in movie musical history.

The film is effective at capturing what made the original musical so beloved, and in turn, will belong to a new generation of kids — those kids who might then envision themselves cathartically singing “Popular” or “Defying Gravity” on stage, just as Ariana Grande had as a child.

Hollywood finally delivers a worthy successor to The Wizard of Oz with this musical adaptation, starring the superb Erivo as Elphaba and a startlingly good Ariana Grande as Glinda.

All of Wicked’s best moments are still the ones from the stage. There are a lot of those great moments, though; certainly more than I expected. When Erivo’s Elphaba hits the soaring high notes in Wicked’s signature song, “Defying Gravity,” it’s enough to make you wish the wait for the second half of the film was only 15 minutes, instead of an entire year.

Wicked is as enchanting as it is exhausting.

This picture should have passed by in a sprint, not slogged past like an overlong, overbudgeted Macy’s Parade with Music that would test the patience of anyone, including that toughest PG audience of all — kids.

A great adaptation of the video game it's based on! Weirdly, it was first only unlockable for a limited time before Christmas, then became free as an early Christmas present. Not as much cookie characters and references to baking as I expecte- Oh... wrong media timeline. Anyway, this one's better, but I like that other one more. Bye-bye.

Long disappointing, over hyped. what could have been a great movie was ruined by annoying songs and a two part story that I am not interested in the slightest!

Ein Film über Toleranz, Freundschaft, Unterdrückung und Freiheitskampf. Alles kindergerecht in eine Fantasy-Story verpackt. Als Erwachsener kann der Film nervig empfunden werden, da sehr viel Musical-Elemente. Darüber hinaus ist der Film viel zu lange.

This film takes the generational classic that is The Wizard of Oz, and spits in it's eye with character assassination and plot revisionism. Oh the WICKED witch that kills kids? Actually just a misunderstood allegory for minorities. The kind and nice witch that helped Dorothy? A selfish megalomaniac as insufferable as the director of this movie. Lyman Baum is rolling over in his grave as we speak.

This film is average.I support the speaker. And I would add that dubbing in miuzikal is a total shot in the foot. Ariana knows how to sing and especially how to imitate other singers. Yes, she is great at imitating, but her ‘own’ compositions are very average. And her acting is poor. If it wasn't for her pretty face and her sweet charm, she would be singing somewhere at a fair in Alabama.Besides, the film is very disturbed. It touches on many taboo subjects which should never be part of a children's film.
