The Longest Yard

Sandler impressively assumes the Reynolds role here, with strong support by Reynolds himself and a slightly restrained but frequently hilarious Chris Rock.

It's a definite crowd-pleaser and a perfectly fun night at the movies.

That's what is missing from The Longest Yard most egregiously. Charm has been kept on the bench.

No classic, but neither was the original starring Burt Reynolds. Instead, it's an odd mix of amusing nonsense and nastiness that chugs along, hit and miss, until the last section, which is the best part of the movie and its real reason for being: the game.

Peter Segal's film, a predictable, choppy affair at best, boasts an understated, likable performance by Sandler, but here we never feel, as we did with the original, invested in the outcome of the final game, or convinced of the redeemability of the movie's sordid protagonist.

Sandler's performance is aimed squarely at the fans who love his smarty-pants man-boy shtick and Rock gets off some funny lines, but overall this is one dreary, formulaic slog through sports-movie cliches.

What was already a raucous put-on, a goof on Aldrich's brutal action movies, is now a hyperbolic, gross-out cartoon, with a cast of enormous ex-football stars (plus the 7-foot-2-inch Indian wrestler Dalip Singh) only adding to the air of facetiousness.

comedy, drama, the characters have charisma and principles, yes in some moments the humor is too stupid but the film shows team play, a good comedy with contrast of characters and emotions

Eh, I like it. Gets a few good laughs out of me and the game at the end is interesting.

While some of the jokes aren't very funny and the movie is cliché and predictable, it's still very watchable and entertaining. The acting is okay, the soundtrack is quite good, the movie was very entertaining and it was just an overall fun watch. While this is not one of Sandler's best comedies, it's still worth watching.

The remake of the Original "Longest Yard" is indeed funny. It's has the shakes that will make you quake, The fries that will cross your eyes, and the burgers... Well, you get the point.

The Longest Yard 1 And A Half Out Of 5 The Longest Yard is a misguided plot driven feature whose fatal attempts to install humor forcibly gives it away within few minutes. As one does assume, the tone is similar as any other Sandler feature does and so does the humor and characters offered in here. It is short on technical aspects like sound department, background score, editing, costume and production design. The writing is weak and relies a lot upon the adaptation (except for humor) and offers a very little fresh perspective to feed upon. The updated screenplay might be funnier in its own terms but isn't something that holds the viewers and the primary reason would be its sometimes cheap humor and ludicrous attempts to draw in the laughs fails on whole life. Peter Segal; the director, requires some more work on the execution skills for it is uneven and loosely scattered around varied sequences. The performance by Adam Sandler is decent as he draws out most of the laughs but his supporting cast like Chris Rock and Burt Reynolds didn't seem in their A game. The Longest Yard is actually longer than it accounts for, as the blurred out vision of the destination never clears up for the makers.
