The film is a one-of-a-kind entertainment, with a kinetic, breakneck wit.

A very good horror comedy-drama about a disfigured musician haunting a rock palace. Brian De Palma's direction and script makes for one of the very rare backstage rock story pix, catching the garishness of the glitter scene in its own time.

Amazing music. Amazing direction. A new take on both faust and phantom of the opera. It is a movie that you can't get tired of. After finishing it, you simply cannot wait until your next watch. It is truly a forgotten masterpiece.

A masterpiece! This movie has everything: a great story, a great cast, a great director and a great soundtrack! I hope young people give 'Phantom of the Paradise' a shot because it's way better than anything coming out now.

A smorgasbord of camp, Grand Guignol, and bird imagery that thumbed its metal beak at commercial considerations.

A better rock'n'roll parody than The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and one of director Brian De Palma's more original efforts, Phantom of the Paradise combines elements of The Phantom of the Opera and the Faust legend into a fairly entertaining, but only sporadically successful, horror-musical comedy.

A garish cult thriller.

This was one of De Palma's early efforts, and its excesses can be chalked up to youthful enthusiasm—the ideas seem appealingly audacious even when they misfire, which is more often than not.

Phantom of the Paradise is an elaborate disaster, full of the kind of facetious humor you might find on bumper stickers and cocktail coasters.

Q: If you had to choose only one, which movie would you watch for the rest of your life? A: Well, let me think. Probably one that has a little bit of everything. One that's endlessly entertaining and rewatchable... I know, something like Phantom of the Paradise.

Excessive but understandable for the times of its release. Even though it was released earlier, this film is like The Rocky Horror Picture Show, too overrated but quirky enough to turn heads, and that means - just like The Rocky Horror Picture Show - that if you don't get into the visuals and musical atmosphere, you will not be able to enjoy the experience.
And yes, the experience is nothing exceptional, but it was entertaining.

I didnt know this was a musical Intentionally campy and trashy, It pays tribute to lots of past horror movies, Jokes are amusing, Pace and performers have lots of energy, But the music is intentionally bad, They could've at least made a few songs memorable.
