Peter Pan & Wendy

It might end up being the most beautiful, moving and all-around-loveliest children’s film of the year.

The director and co-writer David Lowery has made nothing but interesting features, six so far, and while his latest (co-written by Toby Halbrooks) turns into a bit of a Lost Boy here and there in its brooding investigation of why Captain Hook, played by a happily camp-averse Jude Law, got that way, it’s a stirring adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s fantasy.

Despite the fact that it trades in a dogged familiarity, this magical story still retains some spark.

The entire thing has a whiff of missed opportunity, and sometimes you might wonder if Lowery and his co-writer Toby Halbrooks wanted to dive deeper than they knew Disney's copyright-tending, merchandise-selling executives would have allowed.

Lowery and Halbrook overstuff the narrative, which begins to wobble and drag under the weight of its obligations. Nevertheless, there are interesting changes and subtle ways the duo correct the original text.

Where “Peter Pan” was a phenomenon, this straight-to-streaming version is but a shadow, scampering off and trying to have fun on its own.

This movie makes being young look like the opposite of fun, a spell you’ve got to break out of. Maybe that’s the ultimate revelation of the story of Peter Pan—but it shouldn’t be drudgery to get there.

Good but could be better ...

Still not as unoriginal as other Disney resummonings, but alas, it still is an uneventful bore of sorts, "Peter Pan & Wendy" makes you feel more like you're falling then flying.

Not literally but the construct it took to conclude this movie and bring it to live to me wasn't worth the effort, in my eyes maybe in the near or far future a beautiful reboot would have to take shape, we all grow up disney actually like what's going on, is this the turn you've taken maybe i thought wrong seeing how many of us anticipated the movie waiting for a whole new world of wonder just to get the airbag hitting you hard in the face, to some it was awesome but to me NAH. Made my eyes hurt cause in my sense i just had to see it to the end, despite being clueless and all i never knew the meaning until Peter just wanted endless adventures with his best pal hook spoilers alert BOOM. It's more like two friends trapped in an endless loop of tag.
