Orphan: First Kill

Orphan: First Kill is a tremendously clever slasher that has fun with, and lives up to, its absurd premise.

Plenty of blood splatter brutality throughout Orphan: First Kill will satisfy gore hounds looking for their next fix. Bell, who previously directed the similarly themed The Boy and grizzly werewolf film Wer, proves to be a deft hand at creating tension without resorting to cheap jump scares.

What makes Orphan: First Kill worthwhile is that it acknowledges the original before taking a hard left turn into overblown soapy madness. The modern gothic of the first film transforms here into a perfectly fitting explosion of operatic schlock.

Each time Fuhrman is obviously switched out or Julia Stiles is clearly stood on a box the B-movie hokeyness is utterly hilarious. That fun is only enhanced by the complete seriousness with which each actor is performing their part, particularly the cat-and-mouse duologues that Stiles and Fuhrman practically spit at each other.

David Coggeshall's script has more than a few tricks up its sleeve, including some jaw-dropping twists that I will confess I did not see coming. It makes sense — the first film had a jaw-dropping twist too, after all. The twist feels fresh and exciting here, and changes the entire film in a way that's wickedly enjoyable.

Orphan: First Kill only merits viewing if it is a viewer’s first exposure to the series. For anyone else, a rewatch of the original ought to do – it holds up remarkably well on repeat viewing.

William Brent Bell’s film proves that not every horror concept has the potential to be franchised.

First movie was better, but this movie is very good too. Isabelle Fuhrman is good, but Julia Stiles like a mother is better. I want more..

Is a 2022 horror film. It goes back to the film made in 2009. In the first movie, the girl who was taken home, I wonder if she was the devil or something, the appearance of a 30-year-old woman shocked the audience. But in this movie, you played the same person in the past tense more than in the first one. You can't feed this woman to anyone because she's 10 years old. If the ending is as I wish, there is no surprise that this time it will not be the first film. But there was actually the change in the family that I wished for while watching. Does the film meet expectations? Absolutely no. Is it monitored? It is monitored. There are no explicit scenes in the film, but there is a love scene.

Sinceramente, eu amo o primeiro filme. Para mim, ele é um dos melhores filmes de terror já feitos. Mas este segundo filme realmente me decepcionou muito. Concordo plenamente em continuar com a mesma atriz do primeiro filme, Ela é o rosto da franquia, mas poderiam ter usado CGI para fazer a atriz parecer mais jovem. Mesmo que ignoremos esse pequeno problema, o filme ainda decepciona bastante, pois, mesmo sendo um 'filme de origem', ele basicamente conta tudo que já tinha sido explicado no primeiro filme, porém com mais detalhes, sem contar realmente a origem da personagem. Resumindo, este universo do filme tem um grande potencial, com muita coisa para ser explorada e feita ainda, podendo trazer muitos outros filmes. Mas, infelizmente, este segundo filme não explorou nada que já não sabíamos.
