No Exit

No Exit is a gratifying thriller with a stellar lead performance by Liu. It is a concise and impactful piece of work, even when it stumbles in the third act. It is well worth a watch, especially for fans of the single-location thriller subgenre.

While competently performed — Liu in particular is exceptional, lending a fraught likability to Darby; Haysbert exudes a natural warmth; and Dickey gives a good frayed performance despite a disappointing characterization — and decently directed, it feels like there's something missing from No Exit.

The filmmaking itself is sound. Liu is spellbinding, and her supporting cast of character actors are game for the script’s insanity.

As child kidnapping/trafficking thrillers go — and yes, there have been scores of these — No Exit barely stands out from the pack and overreaches at times. But it puts us in somebody’s snow-caked shoes and dares us to reason or fight our way out of this with her, which is all you can ask.

Director Damien Power occasionally tilts the movie into horror territory, with some particularly grisly violence that might shock viewers who think they know where it’s going.

No Exit drops an arsenal of twists and rug-pulls at a machine gun’s pace, though Power, the director, doesn’t quite know how to milk the tension, and the perfunctory script (written by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari) tries and fails to give the events a greater resonance.

It’s an airport novel that’s now an airplane movie.

A gripping thriller. I haven't read the book so I have no idea how faithful it is to its source material (I do want to read it having now watched the film). The acting is solid. I thought that I was going to be able to predict the twists but in most cases I was wrong, which is surprising considering I'm normally spot on with thriller movie twists. I do recommend this film.

It is 6.5 movie for me - while I enjoyed most of it, what the movie lacked was showing some more of the backstory for some of the characters and there were some plot holes in it. But I did like the whole concept and it was intriguing to watch.

There is a scene where someone sniffs cocaine and becomes powered up like Super Mario when he takes a Mushroom. It's a pretty enjoyable suspenseful thriller with dumb writing.

A subpar film in almost every way. The fact that is a made-for-tv movie can't excuse its cheap look; 'Kimi' and even 'Fresh' — also from Hulu — prove that you can make something interesting with little money and by not trying to be too serious. In this thriller — if you can call it like that because I found no sense of real mystery anywhere — a young woman escapes the rehab center where she's at so she can go and see his mother, who's very ill. Shortly, a blizzard strands her in a rest area, where at least one of the visitors is hiding something. Mediocre acting, forgettable characters, awful dialogue — you know something's off when there's a gunshot and a character says that "there's only one thing in the world that sounds like a gunshot" — and the most generic story makes 'No Exit' a very bland experience. Not even its 90s vibe and the gore — a pool of blood kills someone! — can save it.
