jackass: best and last

It is slightly tamer than its predecessors, because our dudes are older now, a bit battered, having accumulated too many head injuries and herniated discs to keep upping the ante the way they usually do. It’s a sweeter film, more emotional and deeply wistful. However, that doesn’t mean “Best and Last” skimps on the derring-do, or the daring doo — rectal-related stunts abound, as expected.

While “Forever” hinted at a timelessness for the “Jackass” team, “Best and Last” feels more finite, a recognition that all good things must end, and a reminder that sometimes it takes a fearless kind of genius to be this dumb.

Jackass: Best and Last functions more like a coda to the whole franchise than its own full-fledged movie, mixing in new material with a “Greatest Hits” look back at memorable stunts from the past. But if you love this franchise and these guys, it’s a fond farewell, complete with the requisite penises, poop and vomit along the way.

Time and time again, we’ve heard from Johnny Knoxville that this is the end of “Jackass.” Yet this time, it’s never felt more genuine coming out of his mouth. This sentiment runs throughout “Best and Last,” as it’s the little moments that make this film really feel like a door is closing not only for these guys’ lives but also for those who have watched them all this time.

While it may not be peak Jackass, this feels like a suitably anarchic way to call time on the pioneers of self-inflicted torment.

While the mix of old and new can be a blessing and a curse, Knoxville and the gang have earned the victory lap.

Jackass: Best and Last is a sad but fitting end to an extreme stunt franchise that was vanquished not by imagination but time.

Thought I was too mature for this type of humor at my age. Turns out I was wrong! I haven't laughed so much in during a film in a long time. This film also did a great job mixing in some surprisingly emotional nostalgia. Seeing the contrast between where they started and where they are now really hit for my generation. Members that were lost along the way or have changed drastically struck a nerve I didn't expect. Speaking of the cast remembers, this was the biggest issue. There were a bunch of people just kind of "there". They weren't engaged in any stunts or jokes, they were just taking up space. This made some of what the now older group were doing look trite and hackneyed.

Full disclosure: I watched every ep of the MTV series and have reviewed all of the movies, so I’m a fan. Johnny Knoxville and his gang return for this final celebration of raucous stunts and rascally camaraderie. They take on new challenges, so many of which involve genitals or anal penetration. There are also moments of reflection that includes never before seen stunts from earlier in the show’s evolution. It’s sill outrageous joy, but seemed like many of the feats have been done before, which makes this less exciting. Even if it may NOT be the best, it’s still fun to see the conclusion of this decades-long phenom, still full of extreme mischief and brotherly love.

Yes it does contain a lot of old footage, but it has enough new stuff in it, that makes it a good watch.

Definitely the worst Jackass movie to date but I sort of expected as much. Remember the new female cast member that did literally 2 stunts in Jackass Forever? Well she does a total of 0 in this one. Not joking. Why is she even there? She doesn't even really talk. It was awkward. This installment consisted of 50% old prank reels, 20% extra footage from Jackass Forever and 30% new footage but the new stuff is pretty tame and lame. Pontius needs his own series again. He's always been the funniest cast member by far!
