The forgettable title and cookie-cutter concept may seem lazy, but Coogan and Rudd work their asses off to make Erasmus and Paul the most memorable screen gay men since The Birdcage. It’s caustic, authentic, and very, very funny.

The fun stems mainly from the amusing interactions between the two main characters so deliciously played by Coogan and Rudd. Both actors are at peak form here, with Coogan clearly having a blast as the flamboyant Erasmus and Rudd employing his expert deadpan delivery and gift for comic timing as the slow-burning Paul.

Ageless hunk Paul Rudd (Clueless) and Steve Coogan (Philomena) star as an older gay couple who suddenly inherit a child. The child belongs to Coogans a.k.a Erasmus son played by sexy Jake McDorman (Greek) after being arrested. They live an R rated lifestyle but it's hilarious to watch them curb their ways and form a bond. It's not a wholly original concept but it's never been explored in this context. And that's definitely a plus because it's nice to see films of this context being explored with an lgbtq couple. It's hilarious, genuine and heartfelt. Rudd and Coogan are magic and it's all overly entertaining. 8.5/10

I really enjoyed this film - ok its corny/cheesy but its a bit of silly fun. The pompous-ness of Erasmus I found amusing and I thought Steve Coogan and Paul Rudd gave good performances. There's nothing complicated about this film - its an easy, entertaining watch, although it does feature sex references and some strong language and its about a gay couple, so its not suitable for youngsters but I enjoyed it. I get the feeling that both of the main leads, Coogan and Rudd, didn't take their characters especially seriously and I found myself laughing alongside them - laughing with them, not necessarily at them, which is a good thing. Its hardly entirely original or amazing but its certainly worth a watch.

Equal parts sweet and tart, director Andrew Fleming’s “Ideal Home” is the cinematic equivalent of Sour Patch Kids.

As a snarky, stylish Santa Fe couple, Paul Rudd and Steve Coogan deploy a wit drier than the sprawling landscape surrounding their desert mansion. If you enjoy your comedies devoid of easy sentimentality (as this reviewer does), this one’s for you.

Coogan and Rudd's generally charming performances both give weight to their otherwise wisp-thin characters, but their swishy mannerisms also speak to the superficial nature of Fleming's presentation of Erasmus and Paul.

Ideal Home is a trifle, but more than that it’s caught between eras, poised between wanting to crack you up at what cranky prima donnas its characters are and to make you tear up at the revelation of their normal hearts. The result? A comedy of flamboyant banality.

The broad strokes of the performances make the film's occasional lurches into sentimentality seem especially jarring.

While the lead characters are terribly cliched, the movie gets by on it's heartwarming and socially aware story.

Although it is very cliché and predictable, this feel-good comedy still manages to entertain. With good acting performances, an interesting concept and a good pace, Ideal Home is worth a watch.

Steve Coogan and Paul Rudd are a gay couple of 10 years, who find Coogan's 10-year-old grandson (Jack Gore) on their doorstep, after his father has been jailed and his mother has died. Coogan is at his best portraying his supercilious character, while Rudd also does well as the practical partner. There are some laughs and wit here, but be aware that a good part of the humor is raunchy with explicit language throughout, as well as some suggestive scenes.

There's good chemistry between the main actors, but they're both terrible stereotypes.
To make matters worse, the rest of the story is built in a predictable way that I got bored very soon. If you haven't seen it, you can skip this one.
