Not only is this documentary a microcosm of the country at large, reflecting real life in the way that charisma and the ability to fire up the masses can make all the difference when it comes to politics, but it also gives us a sense of what the future can look like.

Mientras que Boys State me hizo temer y lamentar por cómo se maneja la política en Estados Unidos, ni se diga en México; con Girls State demostró que a pesar de ser un programa para empoderar a las mujeres y de mostrar lo capaces que son para la política, se autosabotea aun poniendo muros para que una mujer no pueda tener una voz propia en la política, lo cual, sigue mostrando la cruda realidad y de igual manera, es de temerse y lamentarse.

The perfect compliment to the documentary Boys State, this entry follows several teenage girls as they participate in a political and legal simulation in the state of Missouri, but with only female participants. The documentarians don't shy away from the lessons in inequality that the organizers inadvertently teach the girls through their preferential treatment of the boys on the same campus.

Pega carona no documentário "Boys State", este muito mais contundente e com um roteiro mais amarrado sobre a história a ser contada. Aqui, parece que não houve tanto a depuração de qual linha de raciocínio seguir, inclusive com umas partes meio confusas, e já no terço final o documentário foca na investigação que uma das meninas resolve fazer sobre as diferenças entre "Boys state" e "Girls state", e pensei comigo: é esse o documentário que não vimos. De resto, achei bacana ver novamente a simulação do jogo democrático, inclusive claramente as meninas com maior argumentação e aparência se saem melhor. Algo bem interessante também é ver vozes dissonantes, jovens mais liberais e mais conservadoras convivem num grau de civilidade que fiquei imaginando se seria por conta da câmera ou se são assim mesmo.
