Tautly directed by Kiefer’s longtime “24’’ helmer Jon Cassar, Forsaken greatly benefits from the poignant teaming of its father-and-son stars — as well as Michael Wincott as an especially elegant and eloquent gunfighter who has great respect for John.

Let’s start off with first things first, Kiefer Sutherland is a National Treasure. The man is one of the best actors. He was great in this movie as John Henry. Donald Sutherland plays his father and a preacher. He was also good. The main bad guy mercenary was also fantastic. Overall this movie is one of the better recent westerns, and is a good watch

For fans of the old John Ford/John Wayne westerns, the quiet, non-complaining hero pushed to fighting, this is great. Not to mention we have great actors, father and son Sutherland playing father and son, Demi Moore as the love interest, and great, smart villains. The interaction between the actors, father and son, son and the bad guy, the son and love interest, are well written and well acted. Kudos to the director.

Donald spits hot fire and brimstone, but Kiefer remains as bland an avenging angel of action as ever.

Jon Cassar’s film rejects the recent revisionism that’s flooded the genre. His take – a straight rip-off of the classics – is weirdly refreshing as a result.

It's a treat to see Kiefer and Donald side by side, and both give fine performances. But a pairing this special deserved a story more unique than "reluctant killer reaches for his guns."

Directed by Jon Cassar, Forsaken is a humdrum Western which never demonstrates even the suggestion of a trick up its sleeve.

Amid Kiefer's narrow-eyed glowering, Donald's exhausted-sage routine, and Moore's approximation of rural homeliness, only Wincott seems to fit in, exuding a poised, laconic cold-bloodedness that stands in stark contrast to the film's inert phoniness.

An interesting cowboy movie and both Sutherlands play it really well. While I didn't enjoy few things and maybe I'm not a western movie fan overall, it still was quite a nice movie and I think most who see it will agree.
