Elize: Shadows of a Woman is a competent but unremarkable true-crime drama. Its slow four-act structure builds some tension and successfully explains Elize’s fears, past and need for **** problem is that the film goes beyond understanding her and starts justifying the murder. Marcos is presented so negatively that he barely feels like a victim, while Elize’s actions are framed as panic and almost her only option. That is difficult to accept, especially when her calculated behavior after the killing does not fit the image of a helpless woman acting purely in a moment of **** performances are solid and the story remains coherent, but the pacing can drag and the film manipulates the audience too heavily toward one conclusion. Decent, occasionally thought-provoking, but not particularly memorable.6/10
