My favorite movie. write by one of the best french poet of the XXth century Prevert. Play by the best actors of the moment Arletty, Brasseur, Barrault). Carne describes the mythical paris of the 1830' with character who really exist (frederick lemaitre, baptiste debureau, larcenaire). But the main character is Paris.

Children of Paradise is about as close to perfection as a movie can get. A fascinating story, brilliant performances, love and loss, and now, a new high quality print. If you've never seen it, do so the first chance you get.

Carné’s camera records rather than amplifies the emotions: you can’t help but wonder what magic a René Clair, a Max Ophüls or a Jean Renoir would have found in this material. Its clamorous closing shot – which suggests, but doesn’t show, tragedy – is one of the greatest in all cinema.

This ambitious French film turns out to be a strange mixture of the beautiful, the esoteric and the downright dull. Some startling flashes of inspired mimicry and fresh Gallic humor are wedded to the not un-Hollywoodian concept of the femme fatale who, willy-nilly in this instance, leads men to their ruin in an uneven performance of writing and direction.

Una película aburrida que pretende ser muy profunda y utiliza palabras totalmente rimbombantes. La única razón por la que todos creen que es buena es porque se filmó durante la ocupación de Francia por parte de Alemania. Entiendo el mérito, pero aun así la película es mala. Otro romance mal escrito, lo cual es problemático porque todo gira alrededor de eso. Se vende a sí misma como que presenta otro tipo de sensibilidad que no todos pueden entender, cuando no hay nada de eso. Este tipo de películas son las que le gustan a la persona que se cree cinéfila y mira películas de países impronunciables de diez horas de duración. Otra película del cine francés que no me gusta.
