Underdog humor with a heart. It's like a kinder, sweeter version of "Curb Your Enthusiasm". Lots of laugh-out-loud moments and consistently funny and eccentric characters, including some scene-stealing cameos - with a lot of story packed into each half-hour sitcom make this one of the best comedies on TV.

If you liked the 1981 film, you will love this mini-series adaptation. The story arcs, realistic writing and emotional highs and lows stay the same but both the characters and the relationships between them are given more depth and color. With so many two-dimensional characters on TV, it is refreshing to see real, complex people forming real, complex relationships . . . . and enjoying a few laughs and cries along the way.

Light, charming and funny television. Kate Hudson is a strong lead, you will quickly find yourself rooting for, with a bevvy of great supporting actors, all of whom have both wonderful comic timing and the ability to play believable drama. Guaranteed to give you at least a few laugh-out-loud moments - and a tear or two - in every episode.

One Day (2024)10

This is a wonderfully touching, emotionally intimate series with a stellar cast who are note perfect throughout. While I have not read the book on which this was based, dipping in and out of Emma and Dexter's relationship on the same day each year for 20 years is an incredibly effective way to move the story along gently while allowing these two characters to grow and mature individually and giving weight and depth to pivotal moments in their lives and in their relationship with each other.

All the Light We Cannot See7

With two very strong actors in the lead roles and some very impressive visuals, the movie was more engaging, compelling than the book and it provided a necessary and welcome new element to the connection between Marie and Werner.

Good Omens: Season 29

Season 2 is even better than Season 1, but please note that Episode 1 is the weakest of the bunch, so stick around for Episode 2, which is one of the strongest of the new season. The writing is smart and funny, and Tennant and Sheen continue to bring out the best in one another. This season also includes some wonderful supporting roles, especially Miranda Richardson as Shax and Quelin Sepulveda as the very dim and very endearing Muriel.

A strange, wild, creative, compelling, hilarious, incredibly well-written story with the most talented group of actors on TV. It is impossible to put this show into a genre, which makes the performances by the entire cast so amazing. They make the sometimes abrupt transitions in tone so seamless and real, that you are thrilled to be along for the ride.

Charming characters, fast-paced jokes, light-hearted but grounded content, feel good moments and a stellar cast . . . what more could you want from a comedy? This is a show that is easy to digest, will have you laughing out loud multiple times per episode and leave you with a smile on your face and a desire to know more about this quirky and loveable band of people in subsequent seasons.

Save Our Squad with David Beckham9

A heartwarming documentary with a cast of unique and talented characters. Some of the critics have complained about David Beckham's 'lack of charisma' in the series; but, in reality, he takes a back seat in this documentary and allows the light to shine on a group of amazing young footballers and their two coaches. Edited, his words may come across as 'clichéd' in some scenes, but there is no doubt about his emotional commitment to the project and to the boys on the team, and certainly no doubt about his joy at watching them open up and grow both on and off the pitch.
If you are a fan of football or just a fan of David Beckham . . . . or if you simply want a feel-good afternoon, watch this documentary mini-series!

The Chair (2021): Season 19
Aug 21, 2021
Sandra Oh is sublime in the lead role of this great new series from Netflix. With strong supporting performances by Jay Duplass and steal-every-scene-she-is-in Holland Taylor, the six 30-minute episodes are too easy to binge in a single day. Some may feel that the series maintains a superficial perspective or an unresolved take on the key issues raised, but like the literary references planted throughout the episodes, good writing is about making the reader - in this case the viewer - think for themselves. "The Chair" does this on multiple fronts. The series may not tie up all the storylines in nice, pretty bows, but you feel that each of the characters has grown in some way along this shared journey and you, as a viewer, are very happy to have been along for the ride.
