America: The Motion Picture

One of the funny things about America: The Motion Picture—not all of which is screamingly funny—is that the more you know about America’s past, the more amusing it probably is (the past and the film).

Producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller bring that non-stop energy of their other projects like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and The Mitchells vs. the Machines even if the writing sometimes feels bizarrely dated.

The more that America: The Motion Picture relies on straight parody, the sparser those laughs feel.

America: The Motion Picture only works in fits and starts, more a series of discrete parodies than coherent film. While some of these moments are amusing, and occasionally laugh out loud funny, most are only mildly entertaining.

A throw-everything-against-the-wall collection of silly jokes that reimagines American history as a bro-tastic action flick, Matt Thompson’s animated film makes Drunk History look like a Ken Burns production.

I mean, it’s really dumb: steroidally dumb, dumb not in a charming, laughter-provoking way but just in a clunking, vulgar, relentless, random smutty jokes about handjobs way.

America: The Motion Picture isn’t really a failure, because it doesn’t even try.

I liked it. It narrate the birth of America independence in an exagerated way; using steampunk spoof versions of some historical and fictional notorious figures . Humorous cartoon for adults that deliver what you expect from the trailer: Plenty of action, un-censored dark humor, Pop-culture references, blood, comedy self-deprecation, easter eggs and some clever moking of stereotypes. Hope in a sequel of some sort

I have no problem watching something so absurd and consciously stupid that also embraces it as its biggest strength. But doing it for 90 minutes and still believing it's funny? No. Not all.

Very unfunny and annoying to sit through. There are better animated movies and comedies this year, so, skip this one. It's worthless.

So much wasted potential here. With a talented voice cast and great animation one would think this would be an easy win however, watching this from beginning to end was just exhausting. Many of the "jokes" either just don't land or end up being overused to the point they're just not funny by the end of the movie. While the point of the story is to be stupid fun the writing and execution are just astoundingly bad here. Truth be told, if this had been broken and made into a mini-series I think it could have been good, but as is I would not recommend.
