17 Again

Often silly but it's an honest, unselfconscious exploration of the conflict between a man's physical and psychological age.

Pleasant, harmless PG-13 entertainment, with a plot a little more surprising and acting a little better than I expected.

Though Mann and Perry are game, it's Efron who carries the movie.

It's often breezily entertaining.

Though remaining sweet and tasty, Efron, in his first non-singing and dancing feature film proves he has an agreeable and kinetic screen presence, although his ability to convince us he's truly a 37-year-old encased in a 17-year-old's body is dramatically dubious.

17 Again errs not only by covering such well-trod ground, but also by doing so through a main character - played by a game but ill-served Zac Efron - who's about as dense as they come.

If this is one small step for the actor (Efron) toward becoming a leading man, it is, for Hollywood movies, one more giant leap into infantilism.

An awesome film about Mike O'Donnell (Zac efron) getting to be 17 again as he has wasted his teenage life, and wanted to re-do this particular part of his life. I absolutely loved this film, and it hilarious in some bits, especially Ned, who is Mike's best mate since they were small. 10/10 :)

Just watched it just so I can say I watched it. It turned out to be funny and liked the story similar to 13 going on 30.

A largely unfunny and unoriginal out-of-body comedy, with an important message to send to Hollywood: You can surround a cast with as many comedy pros as you want, but none of them are going help Zac Efron go down any easier.

New Line Cinema:"Hmm, "High School Musical 3" made a quarter of a billion—couldn't hurt to grab a slice of that pie ourselves. Let’s just get Zac Efron; he can show off his basketball tricks, and as the framework, we'll dust off that 80s flick with Keanu Reeves no one remembers anymore. No need for songs—they’re too expensive. Jokes and a decent story? Nah, not worth it. We'll just pay Efron to take his shirt off briefly at the start of the movie. The girls and gays will flock in and stick around, hoping he does it again. Matthew Perry’s cheap right now—no one's casting him post-Friends anyway—and the rest of the cast can just be random TV actors. That should get us at least $100 million in box office returns." Let’s be real: there’s just nothing to get out of this movie. It’s lacking jokes (I smirked for the first time 35 minutes in), it’s neither quirky nor trashy enough (aside from that brief basketball scene in the cafeteria), and it doesn’t push the boundaries far enough (like when Efron as a 17-year-old ends up in awkward situations with his 40-year-old wife or his own daughter). Plus, "17 Again" is painfully dull because there’s no real tension or stakes in the plot. The movie just drifts from scene to scene and eventually ends (I think there was a happy ending, but honestly, I can’t even **** this point, I’d rather rewatch "High School Musical"—because, truth be told, I actually find Efron kind of likable.
