Coming only one year after the first opus, Warcraft II: tides of darkness showed an insane amount of improvements, enough to make it one of the best RTS of its time. The gameplay is much more fluid than the previous installment, there are many quality of life upgrades: you can move units with a simple right click, control groups are bigger, you can place buildings anywhere... everything is already set for future RTS games by Blizzard. There is still some rigidity, but nothing like the first game, Warcraft II is still very playable 31 years later. The two races split away a bit from each other, with units, upgrades and spells being a bit more personalized, even though a lot of symmetries remain. The addition of flying and naval units brings more depth and fun to the gameplay. The campaigns follow the same parallel patterns as the first game, though some effort has been done to make them quite different. A few cinematics, horrifyingly ugly by today standards, paved the way to the famous Blizzard quality for those. Warcraft II was an insanely good game for its time. A precursor for the competitive RTS genre, very fast-paced, and terribly fun to play, it is still good today.

Warcraft II is a legendary fantasy RTS game released in 1995. It is a sequel to the original Warcraft: Orcs and Humans and a prequel to both the superb Warcraft III and the ultimate colossus which is World of Warcraft. I was a little bit too young to have played Warcraft II when it was first released, and I must say, to my eternal shame, that I did not truly experience this game until about 2020, despite being a huge Warcraft fan and a long time W3 and WoW player. I am also ashamed to admit that this game is just too old for me to enjoy properly. Luckily, thanks to an absolutely amazing FREE Reforged mod Chronicles of the Second War, I have been able to experience this fantastic game (or at least a part of it so far) truly “reforged” with later W3 and WoW lore in mind. So my review will be a mixture of the original and Chronicles. The campaign has two parts: the Orcish (Horde) and the Human (Alliance) version of the second war. They differ significantly from each other. In fact, they are often opposite sides of the same story with the opposite outcomes depending on which campaign you play. Later, the human version has been chosen as the canon version for the future of Warcraft. It is difficult for me to review the original, without playing it back in the day and knowing it’s a competition etc. So I will focus more on the “remake“. I must praise the amateur (in the best possible meaning of the word) creators of the mod Chronicles of the Second War, who were able, with very limited budget, to create a fantastic RTS game with a very interesting story, most of which they had to write themselves, or adapt from W3 / WoW lore. And they did such an amazing job of it. I really love it. The voice acting is great, the writing is witty and interesting, there are many fun and entertaining side quests and many other new features. So all in, in terms of the atmosphere and general feeling I get from the mod, it is almost on par with Warcrat III, which is a huge praise coming from me. I cannot wait for the human (canon) campaign to get released and then, hopefully, the expansion Beyond the Dark Portal. No microtransactions (kek) and no DEI (obviously). Pure Glorious PC Master Race RTS entertainment set in a non-yet-degenerated World of Warcraft. Final Verdict: 90 %

Прошёл ремастер Warcraft 2: tides of darkness 1997 года на пк (за альянс). Вся эта часть посвящена геймплею вокруг строительства кораблей и это лютая душка, постоянно сажать и высаживать юнитов, сражаться на неуклюжих кораблях, в общем концепт прикольный, но душный. Графика в ремастере получше будет чем в первой части, меньше похоже на флэш рисовку. Баланс пофикисили, теперь самый имбовый юнит это рыцарь прокаченный на максимум, лучников пофиксили, стало толковее пожалуй. Сама игра стала больше, музыка совершенно топовая. Заставочки, наверное, в своё время поражали воображение, сейчас опять потешны, но ламповы. Вторая часть, кстати выходила на консолях, в отличие от первой части, на геймплее вроде бы это не отразилось. Второй варик такая же легенда как и первая часть, всем ретро фанам обязательна к прохождению, базень. Ремастер качественный.

Данная часть не зашла. Хоть я жрал кашку и сидел на горшке рубясь во 2 варик. Но будучи достаточно взрослым, понял, что я нихуя не понял, кекв. Для меня данная часть была слишком сложна и в некотором контексте нудна, поэтому только 5, только потому что, прохуярил во 2, пока не увидел 3 часть, а про 3 часть увидим в 3, кекв.

Imagine it's 1995 and you are playing Dune 2. It is still a wonderful game but then Blizzard drops this graphically beautiful game with much-improved playability on you. I've spent hundreds of hours playing this.

Best warcraft game to date!! I'd wish they remake or remasted tides of darkness (expansion as well) and orc and humans aka the first and second games. 3 was ok but very limited and wow just ruined everything! If your computer will play it play it

It was very fun to play. Unfortunately, most of the missions were very simple. In addition, the factions are absolutely no different.

one of the best real time strategy games ever. I loved it. Now its bit outdated, but in that time, it was epic.
