The ending didn’t sour me on Visions of Mana overall, but did leave me pondering its squandered potential. This is a game that could have brought the Mana series back to its former glory, but it appears that the development team weren’t given the room to shine. If you decide to try it for yourself, you’ll still find a beautiful game befitting of the Mana series, with some of the best battles it has to offer, but just be prepared for a story that goes nowhere.

The best game in the series in over two decades. Its downsides are minor, making it a wholeheartedly recommendable, classic JRPG experience. [Issue#45, p.80]

Visions of Mana succeeds as a new entry in the Mana series that feels faithful to its identity while bringing it into a modern context with beautiful visuals. Cute characters and a casual battle system make this an action RPG that is approachable for newcomers to the series as well. Small inconveniences and flawed UX design are not enough to hold the experience back, but a story that approves of self-sacrifice narrows its appeal as a whole.

The story starts with a good idea, reminiscent of Final Fantasy X, and develops with quite a few plot twists; but the narrative and dialogues are often flat and unrealistic. The class system is interesting, but quickly begins to lose depth as you realize that the class setup and the characters used in battle make little difference. Battles are often chaotic and difficult to optimize, often leading to a complete forgetting of the available skills and spells. The subquest system is banal and uninteresting, reduced to killing enemies or fetching/collecting items without any compelling plot. The game is still enjoyable and funny nonetheless, offering an intriguing journey through well-crafted environments, that you can deeply explore and fully complete the more you advance in the game and get more classes and powers.

One of the best Mana games out there. Top notch in all categories and heavily underrated by “critics”

I waited far too long to get this game. I really like the world, the story and the characters. I'm about 20 hours in, and I'm hooked. The combat system is fun and the very distinctive "mana" art style is beautiful. It's too bad this did not sell more. I highly recommend it!

It’s a bigger game than I was expecting. At around 50-60 hours at a reasonable pace, working through everything, it’s by far the largest Mana game ever produced. The fact that it doesn’t stop being a highly playable joy from the start right through to the end should be a good indication of just how beloved this one is set to become – it may even just unseat Secret of Mana itself. Visions of Mana might not be quite so genre-refining as that classic, but otherwise, this is the perfect representation of what Mana has always meant to represent.

The lore-heavy narrative also becomes increasingly compelling thanks to a multi-faceted and charming cast. When throwing in a new game plus and even a brand-new difficulty into the mix, Visions of Mana is a refreshing modern classic that can hook you for a gripping 60-70 hours without relenting.

Definitely one of the best RPG games of its year. The world feels so alive, the combat is extremely fun, the story and characters are cute and charming, and the soundtrack is simply amazing. I absolutely recommend this one!

Visions of Mana is a real success that places it among the best episodes of the series, close to the top. Rare are the games that give us so much freedom in the formation of our team with varied jobs that multiply the possibilities. Very easy to take at the same time, it does not forget to be also magnificent to look at with an exceptional artistic direction. It may not have the aura of Secret of Mana in its time, but it sets the bar very high and automatically establishes itself as THE JRPG of the moment, without any possible doubt. As much for fans of the great era as for newcomers, Visions of Mana is a very good experience that we highly recommend.

Visions of Mana renews the soul of the franchise with interesting characters and simple but visually appealing combat. Exploration, interaction with the map and interpersonal relationships are the strong points of this RPG, which is a must for those who enjoy linear heroic adventures. It is, however, a game that stays in the comfort zone of its genre in all respects and optimization for consoles could be improved.

The best Mana game in a long while but how it managed to leave out the one feature that should have come as standard is a complete mystery.

While much of Visions of Mana’s bloated side content misses the mark, its gripping storyline, likable cast, ample mechanical tweaking, and engaging combat combine to forge a very good game, if not quite a great one.I wasn’t at all confident that we would ever get another big swing at the series, so for all my caveats, I’m damn glad this game exists.

There is a game here for someone willing to lower their standards enough, but trust me when I say there are hundreds of better RPGs for you to spend your time on. You do not need to waste it searching for a few nuggets buried here.

Easily my game of the year! I love this game. It is very fun to play. Go try the free demo and see if its interesting to you. If it seems good you'll def love the full game. The combat is expanded in the best ways possible and its a game that has captivated me.

I truly thought I would enjoy this game. First of all, story and characters are most important to me. All sub par
The best parts of this game are the beautiful animations and maps, locations. Boss fights are pretty lame. Voice acting, awful. This to me is a below average RPG. Very disappointed. Happy I played on game pass and didn't buy the game. There are many RPGS, and indie games better than this.

Combat is slow heavy and Uninspired lacks depth. Empty open zones. Poor voice acting
