The Wreck
There’s no real challenge and very little gameplay in this craftily created 3D visual novel, but The Wreck’s main character’s personal story will pull you in and leave you feeling fully invested in seeing her through the worst – and perhaps last – day of her life.

It captures moments of messy humanity that cut through the wreckage. [Issue#384, p.119]
As you might expect from the makers of Bury Me, My Love, this is a game that cuts deep, and by the time I got to the end of Junon's journey, I really felt like I'd done some soul-searching of my own. Crucially, though, this isn't a game that mires itself in its own misery. It's not a laugh riot by any means, but there's an enduring dynamism and sense of optimism to be found among its emotional wreckage, and the more Junon discovers about herself, the more enthralling her story becomes. Made me cry and laugh and then cry some more. It's the most emotionally strong video game I have ever played. Yes, the gameplay is simple, yes all the focus is on the aesthetic experience, but in my opinion we need more games like this, to expend the spectrum of what VG can be!

How come this game isn't already highly rated on Metacritic ?! This is by far one of the best narrative games I've played. I put it right next to Edith Finch.I have followed the story from beginning to the end not being able to pause. Go for it if you didn't do it **** is just beautiful in a European comic style with an original way to get the player attention (no HUD here). Note:9.5 for the past owners of a red VW Golf II like I, incredibly reproduced in game ^^

Some of the most mature writing in a video game 2023, and for me personally a definitive step up from the also interesting game Inua from the same developers, iirc. Whereas Inua didn't quite come together for me, nor had the same highs, The Wreck was just an emotional tour de france for me personally. :)

It’s difficult to wrap my mind around The Wreck. Even after finishing it, my thoughts keep coming back to chord-striking moments. Absorbed in these tableaux, the game’s problems fall away. But it’s difficult to imagine recommending it to any but the most ardent adventure game fans or story-driven players.
