The question isn't whether The Witcher 3 Remastered can still compete in 2026. The real question is which comparable game of the last ten years can go toe-to-toe with it, and that is a very short list.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered stands as an exceptional definitive edition that goes far beyond simple resolution bumps to revitalize a legendary RPG. All the visual overhaul, newly integrated technologies, and quality-of-life enhancements add immense value to an experience that originally debuted over a decade ago. Except for modest official mod inclusions, this free update delivers an unmissable, beautifully crafted journey for newcomers and returning fans alike

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered is set to be the RPG of the year for those who have yet to visit the Continent; it may well hold that title even for players who haven't experienced Geralt's adventures in a long time or who missed out on The Witcher 3's expansions when they first launched. Thanks to its graphical enhancements, this new version holds its own against 2026 releases in terms of audiovisual quality. New animations, combat tweaks, skill tree adjustments, and other refinements to gameplay mechanics and overall quality make this the definitive version of the decade's best action-RPG. In our experience, the visual leap provided by path tracing is spectacular; it not only allows the game to look as good as any release from this year but actually surpasses many of them. Furthermore, the fact that this update is free for existing owners—and includes the first two expansions for those who hadn't previously purchased them—makes it incredibly easy to give the game a try. These improvements provide the perfect reason to revisit the Witcher and pave the way for Song of the Past, the new expansion arriving next year.

If you’re coming back to The Witcher 3 after a long break, or if you’ve never played it before, now is the perfect time to immerse yourself in this awe-inspiring world. This was my second playthrough of this title, and honestly, I enjoyed it even more than the first. If you’re looking for a new game to dive into headfirst, then you’ve come to the right place. Lose yourself in the world-building, fall in love with the characters, and soak it all in, because this is an experience to savor.

The Witcher 3 at its visual best. The remaster refines the combat, skill system, and controls, but largely leaves everything else as it was.

Without a doubt, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered is the best way to revisit The Witcher 3. It is beautiful, polished, still packed with timeless content, and comes as a free upgrade. The Witcher still has a story that holds up remarkably well today and a world worth exploring, and its quality has always made it better equipped than most games to withstand the passage of time.

We are talking about The Witcher 3, complete with its two excellent DLCs: Blood and Wine, which is richer in terms of content, and Hearts of Stone, which is more artistically striking. The remastering work is polished, save for a few minor hiccups—mostly involving the menus. It is truly hard to pass up, especially considering we need to get ready for Songs of the Past.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered remains an exceptional RPG thanks to its memorable characters, outstanding side quests, and richly realized world. Its combat and movement show their age, but the writing, exploration, progression, and sheer amount of quality content make it easy to understand why Geralt’s adventure has endured for so long.

CDPR’s free upgrade offers plenty to enjoy ahead of Geralt’s final adventure, making the Continent feel at home among today’s best open worlds.

The greatest strength of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered is that it gives us an excuse to step back into the shoes of Geralt of Rivia on his journey across the Continent. Years later, it remains thrilling to wield both the steel and silver swords, and this time CD PROJEKT RED delivers an updated, smoother, and more modern combat system. The visuals have been overhauled—particularly the lighting, which has achieved a new level of realism thanks to Ray Tracing and Path Tracing. Unfortunately, however, the overall result is inconsistent, and performance takes a significant hit when these technologies are enabled. The developers have promised to release patches to address these issues soon, but for now, we have to acknowledge that the Remastered version’s performance is far from optimal. Still, the joy of riding Roach once again is priceless—and it’s a fantastic way to pass the time while waiting for Songs of the Past.
