Really loved the environment and setting of the game and the atmosphere makes you feel like you are in the game. Story was decent but the survival mode gets a bit repetitive.

I was hyped for this game, but when I tried it, it was really boring. I knew the survival part was a sandbox, which is why I tried the story mode. It was really disappointing, as the tasks were repetitive and dull. That said, I like the visuals and I hope that in another life, The Long Dark would have had a freaking cool story and gameplay.

no borderless fullscreen in 2025. no option to turn off pause on loss of focus, even during unskippable cinematics. terrible tutorial, default settings for basically everything are as obtuse as they could possibly be. i don't know how there are so many chapters to this game when the first one is laughably unfinished. there might be something valuable here, but i have tried at least 3 separate times over the course of a decade to play this game, and it's just been terrible every time. i enjoy survival craft, and difficulty is not the issue. it's just that the game is lazily designed and you can see that reflected in many of the reviews here.

однозначно лучшая игра о выживании. Настраиваемый режим сложности, реалистичная формула выживания, классный саундтрек, нетипичный визуал. И гнетущая атмосфера одиночества. Хотя кому как, кому то это одиночества настолько приятно, что люди живут в этой игре, и я один из них. Единственной чего игре не хватает это возможность построить свою хижину в любимых локациях.

A lot of **** made survivors in here, must be summer. If you cant handle the cold, the wolves, the bears, the cougars just say so. Its not the games fault you lack skill, patience and a logical planning instead of a tiktok fueled brain, maybe minecraft is more your pace I'm 250 hours in and still discover new things. This game is a wonderful experience for the right people. Hinderlands are doing a very good job in challenging the player. Its community driven. They might lack in the story department, but the survival part of the game is as good as they come, no other game comes close to this. The fact that a blizzard can be scary is an amazing feeling. The game does not deserve the rating it has on this low budget wannabe journalist site

I've had so much fun with this game. A bear attacked me earlier when I was updating my map and it sent a cold chill down my spine. I swear I can feel my character shivering in the cold. It's not perfect, but it's better than it's current score of 6.8 IMO.

Boring, simply boring. The game lacks content besides running around and exploring abandoned houses. Overall the game is pretty boring and "unnecessary hard".

Hayatta kalma modu da çok farklı değil açıkçası, sıkıcı! Peki neden mi 425 saat oynadım? Çünkü benim oynadığım en iyi hayatta kalma oyunlarından bir tanesi. Fakat bu iyi olduğu anlamına gelmiyor. Tamamen piyasadaki rakipsizliğinden kaynaklı, adeta hayatta kalma kategorisinde tekelleşen bir oyun olduğunu düşünüyorum. Kimse bu kadar detay barındıran hayatta kalma oyunu geliştirmiyor. Bir tek The Long Dark bu kadar detaylı şekilde yaptı. Ancak dediğim gibi bu iyi olduğu anlamına gelmez. Şunu şimdiden demeliyim ki bu oyun gerçekten de çoğu kişinin dediği gibi bir yürüme simülasyonu arkadaşlar. Abartmıyorum oyunun hem hikaye modu olan wintermute hem de hayatta kalma modu olan survivor modunda hunharca, usanmadan, bıkmadan saatlerce yürüyeceksiniz! Acayip yavaş akan bir oyun. Hep aynı şeyleri yapacaksınız. Denilenin aksine yeterince gerçekçi mi? Hiç değil! Bu oyunu alacak olan insanların temkinli yaklaşmasını tavsiye ediyorum. Gerekirse ilk önce korsan bir şekilde oynasınlar, ondan sonra satın alsınlar. Fakat her ne kadar bu söylediklerime katılsam da bu oyunun yeri benim için ayrı. Belki sizin için de öyle olabilir. şahsen 6 puan veriyorum. Eğer oyunda yapabileceklerimizin sınırı artar ve özelliklede bu eylemleri gerçekten uğraşılmış gerçekçi animasyonlar (isteyenin açıp kapatabileceği ekstra bir ayar) eşliğinde yaparsak, açık dünyada daha çok iz bırakabilsek, birkaç küçük şey inşa edebilsek tadından yenmez. İşte o zaman oyunun içine daha kolay bir şekilde girebiliriz. Bu dediklerimin yarısı bile oyuna eklense puanımı 7, 8 hatta belki de 9'a çekerim.

You could have written a better story instead of boring and repetitive tasks to extend the duration of the game.

Developers are simply not making any progress and are constantly postponing announced updates indefinitely. They prefer to sell DLC before the main game is even finished. Such practices should not be supported.

The best survival game and one of my favourite games in general. I have already played over 1700 hours, mostly in survival mode. Story mode is ok but it is not what this game is about.

It has much potential but overall its a greedy and clumpy designed game. Most of the time its a "walking from A to B simulator"Survival mode is great especially with the customs settings, but still lack of animations, effort from devs and as much as I like survival games, but this one made me more frustated than any other gameany freaking time!!! Game is trash overall. couldve been a blockbuster but they decided to being dumb devs. And game is not immersive at all, staring at loading screens while making fire etc. they don't even put the effort in this game after 8 years to make some nice animations. they do rip off some features of the game and sell it separately and so on they're just greedy. glad I prirated them. (playing on version. 2.32)

It really is a shame this absolute masterpiece is so underrated. The ammount of hours you can get lost in this **** never gets old. My absolute "go to"

I got this game for free in Epic Games. At first glance, this game seems like a walking simulator where you starveno matter where you start. Do they even teach you how to start? Do they even teach you how to play in general? There'sno tutorial.

Important info below!!! read it all. One of the game i followed since early release, liked it then ( starting from version 0.25 ) and it became one of the best game in the genre of all times. Devs did really good communication and still keeping it up, game play is captivating - to compare, never got fully into the Forrest or Stranded deep, but really enjoyed TLD. it really deserves 9-10/10 total score from players and i think lots of negative reviews fall on after release and paid DLC. Hinterland became one of the best game developing companies in their communication and attitude, listening to players ideas and remarks. 91% positive reviews on Steam reflect game quality and reality much better that metacritics score. PS: The Survival mode - is all 12/10, by the time Story mod came out, i (and many other people from kick start)had literally 1000hrs (thousand) of play, so story mod felt like softer version of main game. also, when recently Hinterland divided survival and story mod, and released paid DLC - that`s when TLD got bombed with negative reviews, HOWEVER: first, many people and me personally voted for paid DLC - it was fair, the game price stayed around $25 for few years; second, people complayed "why you do DLC for survival while some story mod seasons in work still" - BUT TLD WAS a Survival Sandbox first and most, and many people like me - play exactly it, survival mod without story and kudos to Devs they still updating survival mod, paid AND free both; third - the game IS the best at survival and unforgiving - one mistake you you WILL die there, make manual saves if you must; forth - read carefully game description - its very fair and straightforward - its not a "realistic" blah blah, Devs do know about real live wolves different behavior etc etc and its written very strait - and if its not your type of game - it is not your type, but once again - before DLC release its STEAM rating was around 96-97% positive as deserved, and Hinterland team would put to shame alot of "triple ZZZ" big game companies, like bugfethda etc, in terms of really good attitude towards their players

No matter how much unlucky you might be (wind, lack of food, attacked by the bear), with enough determination there seems to be always a chance to recover. It is truly immerse, engaging and fun experience.

Whether the game was released or now, it is still the first game that comes to mind, very successful, I recommend it.

Ideal game for podcast listening. Very atmospheric. Also hard and you cant just kill everyone, and overall nice survival game

I don't like walking simulation style but this game has very good atmosphere, just a little bit boring.

Although there are moments when I get stuck in the game sometimes, it is a game where you can have a good time in general.

The Long Dark is poorly balanced. It claims to be realistic and, in the end, manages to be realistic but in a surreal way. Everything that have to do with wildlife is horrendous. HORRENDOUS: animations, behavior patterns, hit-boxes, A.I... Hunting is horrible; deers can climb rocks and mountains, but your are unable to jump even 15 cm. Then we have the sprains thing, trying to chase the said deer. Ridiculously unbalanced. Bad weather become just common and annoying after a short time and the game turns really boring. The story mode is a fetch quests explosion; I would rather liked something similar to Subnautica, where you have to reach some place with no one telling you what to do all the time. The emotional texture overall and some map layouts are great, but that's all about it.

have felt the cold and loneliness in this game. Setting of ten, a unique game of its kind that if you are a lover of extreme survivals you have to try. Recommended on high difficulties for an extreme challenge.

Great story, great surviving exp all the wildlife and being trapped by the snow it feels peaceful

The game has potential, but is ruined by the lazy devs. They haven´t even fullfilled promises made over 6 years ago. Updates are few and far between, but they sure ramp up their posts in time for a nice steam sale. Just another reminder to not buy early access games.

This is an amazing game. The game is beautiful, atmospheric, comfortable. It has the best survival mode of any game. Developers have been releasing free add-ons for the game for many years. Are you looking for a game with the best winter atmosphere? Want the snowiest game ever? Do you want to silently wander with a gun through a snow-covered forest against the backdrop of the aurora borealis? Skyrim, Frostpunk and now The Long Dark! Don't look at the low ratings, they used to be much higher. This is due to the Nvidia Geforce Now scandal. This is an absolutely ridiculous situation.

This is the type of game that really makes you NERVOUS and on the edge of your seat, holding your breath, scanning your environment. This is the type of game where if you love it you really are going to love it. But i can see why a lot of people have trouble with this game. This game is VERY slow paced, it is supposed to be like this. This game is meant to be played with the music off treading through the deserted snowy terrains trying to find a shelter. I've always been big on apocalyptic stories, movies, games and such. But I could never get into the zombie stomping, machine gun blasting types of survivals. This is what surviving is about! you keeping track of your hunger, body temp, thirst, energy. Your clothes get wet and you lose heat faster, you have to constantly look for more resources and, in the early phases, you almost never feel like you are completely safe from dangers. What would make it a 10/10 for me is to increase the size of the map, and make late games more interesting. There should be challenges (but very optional) that you can do to help your chances for the next challenge (each challenge rewarding something that permanently makes your character better (we have the backpack, moose sack ..etc, there should be more!) What makes me stop playing this game from time to time is when I feel like I don't have any other challenges to do other than just going through the routines surviving

I loved the first chapter... but then... what the hell? Why did you go from a fair size map to a HUGE map... I mean I tried to stream this game and I got bored.... 2 hours only walking from one place to the other and getting back to the same place...

best survival game on the world.just a problem is the story is so slow.....

The Long Dark - это «Любовь к жизни» Джека Лондона от мира видеоигр. Прекрасная игра для холодных зимних вечеров. Eсть лишь вы, ваши физиологические потребности и Мать-природа, которая может быть как беспощадна по отношению к вам, так и оказаться для вас самым лучшим учителем в этом путешествии под названием "жизнь". Атмосфера зимы и дикой природы здесь просто непередаваемая. Если вы любите горы, пешие прогулки, холод и уединенность, то вам данная игра, скорее всего, понравится. P.S. Не хватает кооператива. Я бы побегала в ней с другом. Надеюсь кооператив добавят когда-нибудь.

The art style didn't really do it for me. It looked last decade or is that last two decades ago? People who made this game never have even gone camping like once in winter weather. I can't see anything redeeming or realistic in this "S U R V I V A L" game.

Поиграл всего полчаса и понял, что это самый настоящий симулятор ходьбы. Графон на ультрах мыльный, объекты иногда в буквальном смысле состоят из нескольких полигонов.

I really liked this game. In fact, I am not into surviving games but this one, impressed with story, with characters, with gameplay. Just play. Sometimes I bored while walking on long way and night. But this already needed for this atmosphere. In nights you are nervous Shortly good game.

Just average : -Survival craft game well made, you have to struggle for your life -Basic story -Map too big, character too slow -A bit hard imo -Late quests are not fun, you spend most of time walking from point A to B

one of the best games and survival games i have ever played. it is very realistic and deep. story mod is good too. now that episode 4 is out i would say that, it was mayby the best story mode episode yet. the maps are good deisgned and made. the graphics are good for the style. and the setting what happend in this game like why everything is cold is very cool( that was not a spoiler). music in the game are very good and nice. the menus in game are cool setted up in the inventory and ur notebook and all those things. well thats it i think.

Take all the negative reviews with a grain of salt, because they are salty about the game not being on Geforce Now. If you like survival games, this game is fantastic. If you like open-ended survival games, skip Story Mode as it's nothing special, and just dive into Survival. Even if you're not into the survival genre, checking this game out is still worth it for one word: Atmosphere. Atmosphere with a capital A. I've never seen a game more perfectly capture the FEEL of something more than The Long Dark. It's incredibly immersive. The sound design is 10/10, music is 10/10. Freezing to death after a wolf has torn you up, staggering to the safety of a nearby trailer left behind by a logging company that's probably been gone for years, you hear the growl of the wolf coming back behind you, will you make it?

No es un juego para todas las personas pero si lo sabes disfrutar te va a encantar. Al principio se te puede hacer pesado ir de aquí para allá por la nieve pero la supervivencia es eso, ir de un punto a otro del mapa y para ello cazar, refugiarse del frío, de las tormentas, hacer fuego, cocinar, hervir agua etc. La ambientación es realmente inmersa y la historia se va cocinando a fuego lento. No esperen un juego de supervivencia desenfrenado. También quiero destacar que se nota que en cada capitulo intentan mejorar y van añadiendo nuevas mejoras y mas objetos como bombas caseras para librarse de los lobos o arcos y flechas. Como punto negativo es que ya he terminado el nuevo capitulo y ahora hasta el siguiente tendré que esperar una eternidad

The game is very interesting, but it comes out extremely rarely (1 chapter every 2 years) - disrespect for the target audience. It is clear that the studio is small. But after the deafening success of the first part, it was possible to increase the staff. If Hinterland released a chapter at least once a year, the score would be 9-10. Но после оглушительного успеха первой части можно было увеличить штат сотрудников. Если бы Hinterland выпускали главу хотябы 1 раз в год - оценка была бы 9-10.

This is the best game ever. Except one thing - the episode 4. It's pathetic. I have been waiting so long to feel totally disappointing.
