Visually stunning Metroidvania that manages to be as entertaining as it is frustrating. And while it was entertaining for the most part, it ultimately failed to deliver a satisfying conclusion.
The Last Case of Benedict Fox is a macabre metroidvania that is inconsistent at all levels. The gameplay is rough and imprecise, while the voice acting is, depending on the character, a mix of both horrible and amazing. Overall, the game fails to establish a definitive tone or direction. I expected so much more, and I genuinely hope that at least the gameplay aspect of the game will be fixed and improved in the future.
The Last Case of Benedict Fox could have been a great game if it was more understandable, straightforward, free-flowing, focused, polished – and less frustrating. As it stands, the main draw is the audiovisual style and the mysterious setting.

Early on there is a part where you need to button mash to pull a lady from a mirror. For the life of me I couldn't do it and I almost gave up. Eventually, I ended up button mashing both the controller and the mouse together to get through. I'm glad I did. It's a cool atmospheric game with some neat mechanics. I also really like that the puzzles needed to be solved, rather than just come back with the appropriate item. That said, there were some frustrations. Thankfully nothing elseto the level of the aforementioned, but I didn't always know what to do. Not in a good way. I didn't always know what I didn't know I was supposed to know. It had a lot of potential, but didn't live up to the more polished Metrodvanias out there.

The Last Case of Benedict Fox marries beautiful art and some excellent puzzles to a confounding narrative and sometimes frustrating mechanics. Had it been a pure adventure puzzle game it might have fared better. The game’s platforming and combat are unrefined elements in an otherwise intriguing conception.

The Last Case of Benedict Fox is an alright metroidvania mystery game, but can be incredibly frustrating at times and gets very repetitive. The game started off with an interesting story, but felt like it didn’t pay off in the end.

An honest game which does not think itself more beautiful than it really is, but which could undoubtedly have rubbed shoulders with the masters of the genre by deepening its best ideas a little more.

The Last Case of Benedict Fox is far from being a bearer of H.P. Lovecraft’s thematics in the gaming world: the cosmic horror of the Providence writer is replaced by a plot that at times manages to result engaging, but ultimately reveals to be anchored to more classical horror themes, linked to magic, to the occult, and to the creation of constructs that can be governed by man. Beyond these considerations, the video game produced by Plot Twist is released on the market in a technical state that is far from excellent, and with considerable limitations in terms of readability of progression in its exploratory stages, as well as with a system of enhancements that is anything but exciting. The Last Case of Benedict Fox remains a discreet metroidvania but is lost in the vast sea of productions – even with similar themes – much more refined and refined, proving to be an experience far from unforgettable.

Intriguing puzzles aside, this metroidvania is plagued with systems that seem designed to frustrate.

I like the story and the puzzle makes it challenging. the graphics are good for the cartoony look that it was going for and the monsters in the game have a creepy feel even though it very cartoony
