Put the time into it and get used to its unconventional controls and it’ll eventually wriggle its way into your heart. [July 2017, p72]

A unique and endearing game idea that isn't quite matched by the structure of its challenges or worlds. [June 2017, p.76]

Flawed execution and unrelenting difficulty. [Issue#187, p.78]

An innovative idea but very poorly implemented. The controls are terrible and I guess it clicks after some time but I really didn't even enjoy the game to even try to learn the controls.
8
Unique climbing mechanics, High skill ceiling and a charming artstyle. What else does a platformer Need?

Sumo Digital know how to craft a game, that’s for sure. Lovely visuals, world and music. I feel people have become accustomed to boring tutorials that hold your hand through the first 25 mins of the game. This is some straight-to-the-point challenging action and I love it. Music is fantastic too (David Wise ftw!). Picked it up for less than 4€ on PSN. Quite the steal.

A puzzle-platform in which you can’t jump might seem like an odd idea but Snake Pass reveals itself as a great game despite some rough edges and a sometimes ruthless difficulty.

Snake Pass is held back from greatness by a troublesome camera and poor textures, but it is quite charming and innovates with its snake gameplay, which still has tons of untapped potential. I can’t wait to see what Noodle and Doodle get themselves into next, as Snake Pass’s mechanics can only be fleshed out even more from here.

I was extremely scared that this game would be really boring, but NO! holy moly it surprised me. I got the switch version, and playing it on a plane or in bed or in docked mode, it's extremely fun. It's an amazing game to go with zelda, when you need a break, don't go outside, just play Snake Pass!!

It's been a while since we lost our temper with a videogame. The peculiar control system and the physics that rule the movement of a snake are at the same time the good and the bad of Snake Pass. Despite its cheerful appearances and the good level design, the game is difficult, and not always in a good way.

A fiddly one to get to grips with, stick with Snake Pass and everything will eventually click. When it does, it's a decent platformer that should raise a smile or two. [June 2017, p.82]

Snake Pass delivers a fresh, challenging puzzle experience that unfortunately doesn't last too long.

The implementation of realistic snake physics is commendable, and may even be what snagged Snake Pass a green light in the first place, but it’s also what drags down what could have otherwise been a phenomenal platforming experience.

Snake Pass is one of, if not, the most innovative game of 2017 and there is a constant pull factor in the game that makes it so great. In Snake Pass, you cannot jump, which can be weird for a plat-former, but works in this case. The physics and controls take a little getting used to but are great once you get the hang of it. I'd say the biggest problem with Snake Pass is the difficulty curve, which starts of extremely easy, but quickly gets harder without much warning. There isn't much of a story to the game, but it's fine without it. Snake Pass is an extremely creative game which shows that plat-formers can certainly work with a different formula.

Have you ever wanted a simulator where you climb trees with wet spaghetti, two broken ams and physics no longer work? Well here's the game for you! Worst controls of any game I've ever played in my entire life. They tried to capture the N64 era, but focused on the bad controls and terrible camera. Those games were fun despite those problems not because of them. You can spend way too much time trying to collect things only to have them all reset because you fell into the bottomless pit for the thousandth time. Don't let the cutsie graphics fool you. Frustrating, relentlessly punishing and not fun. Took a chance on this one and it was a huge miss.

This game is being reviewed way too high by most on here. Is it unique and different for the most part for 2017, yes! But it has lots of issues! Flaws: - The camera is HORRIFYING! There is no way they thought the camera was done correctly. It bounces all over like an old N64 game! - Although I did mention below in my "pros" that the controls are unique, at times they feel.. i guess you could say unbalanced and inaccurate. - Unskippable cutscenes (this was frustrating especially if you replay levels for trophies) Things I did enjoy: - The uniqueness of controlling a snake, though it was frustrating as hell to learn. - The cheerful **** get the point. It was cute. :) I would only recommend getting this for $10 or less. (I would have waited for it to be around $5 on the PS store during a sale had I known I wasn't going to enjoy it as much as I was hoping)
