If you’re looking for something that’s creepy without being violent are gory, the puzzle game Smile for Me is for you. It effectively uses its low-fi graphics and video to create a point-and-click adventure that unnerves you without resorting to jump scares and violence.

Smile for Me from developer LimboLane is an unsettling adventure that puts you to the test with its puzzles. The point-and-click backbone will keep the difficulty coming, but the reward for your patience and perseverance will be worth the cognitive trouble you endure.

The game has a veneer of creepiness, but it wears of rather quickly when faced with multiple nonsensical puzzles and I am also not a fan of constantly having typos and text short-hands in character's speech. It isn't cleaver if just appears lazy, like they didn't bother to get anyone to edit the script. Not a game I ever see myself playing again. It has some potential, but it failed to build on it.

A puzzle point and click eerie adventure. The puzzles are unique and I’m loving all the different quirky characters. The writing is hard to read sometimes with all the slang different characters throw around. I’ve spend a good chunk of time just running around with all the different items just to see if the characters say something unique about it, and the crazy thing is a lot of time they do. Like at one point you get a wolf painting and I knew immediately who to give it to, but because I was curious I decided to see if other characters would respond to this item and every single one did! I love when games have that attention to detail and put stuff in there that most people won’t find. The art style and music are perfect. I feel like I’m walking around in a Psychonauts figment world. I’m playing this old school with a journal by my side because I hate getting hints and objectives marked on your map. That said if you do want hints, the game has loads. Characters will give you little nudges and a fortune teller will tell you what specific items are used for.

I’m not sure if I’ve ever played a game like Smile for Me before; I’m equally certain I don’t want to play another one like it ever again. My skin has not stopped crawling since putting down the controller, and I know there are some key moments from Smile for Me that will randomly haunt me for years to come. For a game that isn’t scary, Smile for Me is incredibly creepy in all the right ways; with that being said, it’s somehow still alluring — even welcoming. If you’ve chanced upon a frowny face in the mirror recently and believe a smile will cure what ails you, consider checking into the Habitat — Smile for Me might do the trick (for better or worse)!

Smile For Me is not going to be for everyone. It’s a little disturbing and nauseating, and occasionally its puzzles are just too complicated for their own good. It feels almost like an experimental title, though that ends up giving it a lot of its charm and heart. This game may have a very particular vibe, but I was fully caught up in it from the jump, and it left me grinning ear-to-ear.
