Smash Cars has managed to make an RC racer believer out of me. While I doubt I will be running to my hobby shop to invest in a $200 RC truck or car (one that I would probably break my first time out) I will certainly be spending countless hours driving these miniature racers in one of the best PS2 racing games I have played this year.

It is fun, plain and simple. Any fan of racing games should give this one a try, at least as a rental. I promise a worthwhile experience.

When "Gran Turismo" is too much, and "Mario Kart" just ain't enough, Smash Cars could be just the ticket.

Technical problems and limitations aside, Smash Cars' most important feature (being fun) still manages to glimmer pretty brightly.

The little technical problems this game suffers from are not enough to conceal the addictive RC racing fun Smash Cars offers.

Smash Cars isn't going to appeal to everyone, but its easy-to-pick-up style of play, often absurdly amusing level design, and budget price tag make it a worthwhile purchase or rental for any RC or kart racing fan.

If games like "R/C Pro Am" or "Re-Volt" sound like your idea of the perfect racing game, however, Metro 3D's little speedster could be made for you. [Aug 2003, p.32]

Some slowdown and an oddly inconsistent trick system hurt the game, but it's still good, clean fun. [Aug 2003, p.101]

Despite the lack of smashes, it’s sill a fun game to play thanks to the undemanding and bouncy handling of the R/C cars.

Harmless and basic in both look and execution, Smash Cars lacks a hook compelling enough to make it standout when compared to already-discounted quality RC videogames like "Re-Volt" and "Stunt GP."
