This remake could almost be described as a new game. But is it really Resident Evil without the laughably bad voice acting? [Feb 2003, p.96]
An incredibly impressive re-imagining of a gaming classic.
The graphics are some of the best we have ever witnessed in a game to date, the storyline has been refined giving you more information about Umbrella and STARS, the game itself is pure genius.

The best entry ever — a true masterpiece in every sense of the word. The puzzles are great, the atmosphere is terrifying, and the mansion is beautifully designed. The characters are legendary, the enemies are frightening, and the mystery, horror, and exploration make everything about it amazing.

From the moment the first cutscene runs, you are totally sucked in. Your heart rate jumps as you walk through the hallways, and no feeling is worse than being out of ammo and wounded… everything about this game sucks you into the role of the characters.

If you've never played RE before, the remake will scare you to death. And if you have played through it before, it still will scare you to death! Maybe not as much, but you will jump out of your seat at least once -- I guarantee it.

While the controls can be frustrating, the creepy ambiance is taken to a whole new level. [31 May 2002, p.112]

It is undeniably one of the best looking games ever made for any platform, period. The sound and music are appriopriately spooky.

With the exception of the dated control scheme, Capcom has nearly perfected its craft and created the best Resident Evil ever.

Unfortunately, this version of Capcom's seminal survival horror title doesn't play as good as it looks. As a matter of fact, it plays a whole heck of a lot like the original Resident Evil.

Melhor remake que eu já vi na série de residente evil, ele não só incrementa história como traz novos inimigos sem alterar a essência do original.

With its slow paced gameplay and fixed camera angles Resident Evil was a truly scary survival horror title and this is a superb update of the PSone original that improves the graphics and adds in a few extra elements as well. Of course the flaws, such as the clunky controls and terrible voice acting are still present but even today this is a game still worth playing.

Resident Evil 1, while undoubtedly influential in shaping the survival horror genre, Its outdated controls, laughable voice acting, frustrating resource management, and aged graphics make it a title that fails to live up to the exaggerated praise it often receives. While it may hold a special place in the hearts of those who experienced it in its heyday, modern gamers may find it difficult to see beyond the rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia.

I am probably too late to the party, but this game did not age well at all. How on earth is this game the most high rated game among user scores? I don't get it. Gameplay feels not smooth at all, kind of clunky. Story is meh, but likeable characters atleast. The mansion is cool, however, it feels like a chore to backtrack often. The game is also very hard because there is hard to find ammo and healing items. Overall, it's safe to say that you probably have to prepare that this is a old game and don't expect anything great.
