While it will grab your attention up front, it quickly gets repetitive to play due to nothing to do but race. In addition, the goofy story mode, generic rock sounds, and silly graphics won’t do much to keep you hanging in and watching either.

Monster 4x4 is as wild as the trucks featured in the game; a real sense of control over your fate in the race is never established, since a wrong move can get you stuck thanks to some poor planning, and getting good turns and boosts seems more like luck than anything else.

The announcer redefines annoying, the truck models leave much to be desired and the celebration animation's damn funny, but a solid game otherwise. [Mar 2004, p.47]

Fails to excite on any level. It offers a decent amount of different tracks and courses, but nothing that you do on any of these courses is the least bit interesting.

It also has a horrendous camera system, random trucks with no stats, terrible voice acting, badly designed courses, and characters that look so bad they're funny.

There are hints of potential in Monsters 4x4, but underdeveloped gameplay, a horrible camera, and some of the worst songs and sound effects ever in a GameCube title plague them into pettiness.

But who can blame them for only cheering at the start and finish? What occurs between is a snore fest that could only be lost by a third grader.
