I was expecting a classic Monopoly with a generic Star Wars theme slapped onto it. I couldn’t have been more wrong. The game breaks its own classic conventions and adds teamplay, the chance to challenge enemy locations in an assertive way, by adding a competitive dice game into the mix. All of this and the added Star Wars GO-events are dynamic and really change the way the game is played. Furthermore, the abilities and how you balance them in your team will decide if you either win or lose with your favorite team. The UI is a bit all over the place in the beginning but after a few games you will see more clearly in this fun game where tactical dice play and classic Monopoly meet the Star Wars family.

Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes vs. Villains is a fun twist on the good old Monopoly formula, trading some of the depth of its property-system for interesting class-based team fights, with a nice Star Wars presentation to boot. It’s quite feature-complete and only features a handful of shortcomings, though I would say that the game’s focus on triggering ‘GO!‘ events can make matches even more lop-sided than normal if someone gets particularly high dice rolls on the regular. Still, for fans like me of the iconic board game and Star Wars enthusiasts, there’s a couple of fun hours to be had here – in local and online play alike.

Ubisoft has successfully delivered a fun, feature-complete and highly engaging twist on the classic board game that sacrifices some of the deep, strategic property-trading of the original in favor of unique character abilities and dynamic teamwork that keep matches feeling fresh. It’s definitely best played with a group of friends (preferably 4) that provides a highly entertaining weekend experience for devoted Star Wars enthusiasts and casual board game lovers alike.

Monopoly – Star Wars: Heroes vs. Villains does a generally good job of combining the classic board game with the sci-fi saga. However, with essentially just one game mode, a system that is ultimately very limited, and some lackluster cinematic sequences, you really need to love both to justify the $30 price tag.

The new Star Wars board game reinvents Monopoly with fast paced matches, asymmetric factions and strategic card play. Fresh mechanics keep every session engaging, even if luck still plays an important role.

Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes vs. Villains is full of Star Wars flashiness and some truly innovative mechanics that really mix things up. At the same time, the random nature of its gameplay systems and team-based approach make it less fun than it could have been.

Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes vs Villains offers up a showy, simplified version of the classic board game, for better or for worse. It's entertaining enough for an hour or so, but it's let down by its basic, luck-based minigames and the fact that you need at least four players (AI or human).

A pithy Star Wars party game loosely based on Monopoly, that’s quite a bit of fun with friends in the same room but distressingly uninteractive when playing on your own.
