Still, MLB The Show 26 comes down to playing ball, and in that sense, it still remains capable of draining away chunks of your day (or week). Few sports games have done as well in mastering the soul of its sport. The pacing, tension, and strategy of the game translate wonderfully, and it's still the best day at the gaming ballpark you can find.

Knocking it out of the park once again, San Diego Studio continues to make MLB The Show 26 a premier sports sim.

Gameplay remains solid, with small additions that hardcore players will appreciate, but the lack of real innovation and the limited evolution of some modes are starting to weigh on what remains, despite everything, the best sports simulation game on the market.

The gameplay is largely the same, but with some very negative changes. Online, pitch warping/morphing has become a huge problem often coming at super inconvenient times. The ever present server instability really doesn't help hitters when facing guys who throw 100+, especially since they messed with timing windows online. Then we get to the really ugly stuff- specifically the card cap, which was set at a ridiculously low 20 in a not-so-subtle attempt to prevent NMS players from making stubs, and a blatant shove towards to micro transaction store. This was conveniently left out of any pre-launch streams et al and was not received well at all by the majority of the community. This is very much akin to another extremely unpopular move they made a few years ago: cutting XP gains in half. Ever since the massive turnover a few years ago, the game has gone consistently downhill and most of us can only hope that EA steps in and makes an MLB game again, or 2K. There's next to no content, made the brain-dead decision to remove everyone's favourite grind in TA, the content they do release is bare bones and extremely lacking and half baked. Some of the programs themselves (outside of the MP) are online only...which as mentioned before is an absolute circus now thanks to the rampant cheating problem. Offline DD is just as bad, CPU defense is back to being mega OP'd, outfielder speed isn't scaled correctly so extra-base hits are virtually non existent, and hitting itself has gotten worse, most hard hit balls in the air die on the track unless you're playing at Coors or Laughing Mountain

Hands down the dumbest **** I have ever played in my entire life. It’s an unoptimized, poorly designed, total waste of time. Playing this felt like a personal insult to my intelligence. Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY. Don't waste a single second or a single penny on this garbage.

This game ****, they change nothing. It's the same game over and over. SDS is stubborn. So bad, that I deleted it.

MLB The Show 26 from developer San Diego Studio and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment is a solid improvement from last year’s game, with more data inclusion, smoother career decision-making, and better backend gameplay refinements. While not a huge leap from the previous year, it’s still a good release with enough reason to consider it, especially if you’re a new player who doesn’t have last year’s game.

I signed up for this website specifically to give this game a bad review. It’s lazy. It’s a new skin of an old game. There are no new features for anyone to be excited about, and in fact old game modes and features were inexplicably removed. The developers need to wake up.

MLB The Show 26 once again confirms the series’ solidity. It doesn’t revolutionize the formula, but it improves it in several key aspects, offering an extremely refined and content-rich sports experience. For baseball fans, it remains simply the most complete simulation available today.

If you played MLB The Show 25, you can probably skip MLB The Show 26, but if you are someone that didn't check out last year's version, the new game will likely provide more value. MLB The Show 26 is iterative, not essential, and while it delivers fantastic core gameplay and enough content to keep hardcore baseball fans busy for hours on end, the franchise could definitely benefit from a more significant and daring upgrade soon.

MLB The Show 26 retains the series reputation as a fun game of baseball. If you've never played a baseball game before, you won't be disappointed. If you have, it's hard to ignore the shortcomings. The visuals are dated and need an overhaul, which hopefully will come in the next generation of consoles. The hitting with the Big Zone Hitting and adjustable zone speed is some of the best in the history of the series. The Bare Down Pitches don't really serve a purpose other than implementing the Depth of Field addition to the game. This also looks strange when hitting, but can help identify the ball off of the pitcher's hand. RTTS is a slight improvement thanks to its early game updates, while Franchise gets a slight boost with the new Trade Hub and logic updates to help keep players engaged. No longer is there a March for October mode, and Diamond Dynasty only ends up getting World Baseball Classic players and gear. MLB The Show has transitioned more towards a closed sandbox of a baseball game offering players a few of the same options each year to play, but won't expand beyond this.

MLB The Show 26 slides into bases it's already covered, beginning to feel like a bat that could crack with even one more hit. While there are new things to love, there are too many strikeouts.

Ultimately, MLB The Show 26 remains an outstanding sports simulation that consistently plays to its strengths. The gameplay continues to be among the best in the genre, the content is extensive, and the accessibility is exemplary. At the same time, however, it's evident that the series is currently progressing in small, controlled steps. For newcomers and baseball fans, the complete package is virtually unrivaled, while experienced players will receive a very good, but unsurprising, upgrade.

Ether though that MLB the show 26 is fun there is some stuff that is missing in it. Like March to October, I really liked March to October because I can play as my favorite team and play the whole season with that team but you don't get that in this.

I've played The Show since the beginning loved the game until 2 years ago when I'm like their not doing anything to improve the game. Now after 2 years off I bought this year's version and damn if it's not the same exact game smh why are they choosing to ruin this game is beyond me, graphics are damn near old gen no improvements on actually gameplay.... It's the same game!

Playing on Xbox. This is the first game I paid $70 to purchase. Huge waste of money. The game is fun to play when I play it. The problem is that I am almost never able to play it. DD menus take minutes to load things that should be instant. Whenever I try to edit my squad there is about a 10% chance it will freeze the game. These things have gone on since day 1 and have never been addressed by the devs. In RTTS I faced a bug where the end of spring training crashed the game and I could not play that mode until it got patched. This is embarrassingly bad for a major studio game. Should never have released with this many game-breaking bugs and to have them still extant after almost a month is equally embarrassing. I will not buy 27 or any other version again for any amount of money.

Franchise has been extremely ignored for years, which I guess I should've expected since it doesn't have micro transactions. The "changes" to franchise somehow made it worse than the typical roster update. New Trade process ****, trades in general ****, still don't have spring training invites, draft and scouting ****, UI changes and player screens are worse.
