It's hard to think of a better collection of games than those on Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2. Even if Metal Gear Solid 4 wasn't such a prize for players who haven't been able to revisit it for so long, the game, divorced of that context, is still excellent. While they're less headline grabbing, Peace Walker and Ghost Babel both sit alongside the very best of the franchise. An unmissable collection for Metal Gear fans.

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 perfectly achieves its goal: bringing Guns of the Patriots and Peace Walker — formerly exclusive to Sony consoles — to modern platforms. The inclusion of Portuguese subtitles and a price point that aligns with the volume of content offered represent major wins for Konami with the Brazilian audience.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Volume 2 continues the high quality established by the first collection in the series, though slightly slimmer in the content it offers. That being said, you’ll be more than treated with a fantastic new version of Metal Gear Solid 4, and the handheld frays of the series to make for a whole tapestry that everyone can now enjoy, alongside the first volume.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is a faithful preservation package that finally frees Metal Gear Solid 4 from the PS3 while giving Peace Walker and Ghost Babel another chance to shine. It does little to modernize the games beyond making them accessible, but strong ports, worthwhile extras, and the enduring quality of the originals make this an easy recommendation for longtime fans.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 brings with it two fantastic games, including one of PlayStation 3's best exclusives brought back to life like a shot of nanomachine suppressors to the leg.

A masterclass in game preservation, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol 2 triumphantly rescues Hideo Kojima’s Guns of the Patriots from its PS3 hardware prison. Combined with the sprawling, essential Peace Walker and retro gems like Ghost Babel, this collection isn't just a phenomenal value; it's an essential piece of gaming history finally restored for modern players.

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol.2 finally frees Metal Gear Solid 4 from PS3 prison, and being able to re-experience that brilliant-but-flawed game again is worth the price of admission alone. Packaged with the fantastic Peace Walker and overlooked spinoff Ghost Babel, this is a phenomenal collection. This time around, the games are at their absolute best too, with Vol 1’s technical issues nowhere to be seen.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.2 includes two fantastic games that still hold up all these years later, along with some great content for fans that want to dive even deeper.

Rather than focusing on what Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2—and MGS4 in particular—does right or wrong, this is more about how necessary and cathartic this closure feels. Releasing the collection is practically a gesture to the fans, and if you know how to appreciate it, it’s perfect. But even judged as a modern game, completely out of context, we could still say it’s the best of all nine.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection – Volume 2 finally frees Guns of the Patriots from the PlayStation 3, bringing with it several very welcome visual upgrades. The bonus games are a nice touch, though they aren't exactly the most substantial part of the package. If you are a fan of the series—or want to see how the story concludes—this is a release that belongs in your collection.
