Sci-fi opera epic with cosmic horror; hooking story & sub stories + memorable characters. Bionic class makes the gameplay even more fun since you become supernatural basically. Amazing set pieces, settings, colors and has suit customization. Lore you want to read and know about and mysterious. Sex with alien ****.

As someone who has played many games, I want to say that this game is truly a sacred game for those who love space and role-playing games. No better space RPG game has come into the world outside of this series.

The game feels raw, undercooked and half-baked, like a proof of concept with unpolished game mechanics. The famous characters have no charisma yet, the plot is dull, **** game compared the sequel

Amazing game! A must play to get to know the characters and world. The footprints to what becomes a epic trilogy. Before andromeda drops the ball

A futuristic party combat roleplaying game set in a lore rich and fully immersive futuristic world on the verge of invasion where mystery, intrigue and all levels of decisions change the outcome of the game? I am totally here for all of it. From the exploration to the most ridiculous side quest! I love the visuals, controls, combat, UI and mechanics! Don't change a thing!

This one unfortunately shows its age now, but it's the one that started it all, still a great game if you can get over some clunkiness. The story is superb.

Mass Effect is an RPG developed by BioWare and released in 2007, there’s a few things which set Mass Effect apart from “just another space RPG”, the game was developed with the intent to be the first chapter in a game series. So, the world had depth in mind from the start. Also, for the combat sections instead of taking turns where you pause the game to plan out attacks like in KOTOR you’re actively running, gunning, and taking cover in 3rd person mode. Story: You play as Commander Shepherd. Shepherds’ appearance, background, class and first name are all customizable. I decided to embrace the horror of the character customizer as I attempted to make the squarest looking jawline known to mankind and gave him blond spikey boy-band hair. (The story for Mass Effect is pretty good, so unless you WANT to be distracted every time you see your characters face, don’t go nearly as overboard as I did) Mass Effect starts out with Shepherd being sent on a mission to investigate a human colony of Eden Prime to recover an unearthed Prothean beacon. The mission goes wrong when suddenly a Cybernetic race known as the “Geth” attack the human colony on Edan Prime. To wrap up the first few hours of storytelling in Mass Effect, Shepherd and friends go on a galaxy wide quest to stop Saren, a rogue turian Spectre... but first you need to prove Saren is a traitor, then you get to explore/search all over the galaxy for him.Shepherd and friends will chase Saren all over the galaxy in the starship called the SSV Normandy. In addition to the main quest to stop Saren, there are a number of side missions, codex entries to be collected for even more information on the history and lore of the Mass Effect universe, and lots of dialogue to be listened too from random NPC’s and interacting with the different squad members Shepherd gathersMuch like in Knights of the Old Republic, there is a morality system, but rather than labeling choices “Lightside/Darkside”, in Mass Effect it’s “Paragon” for selfless virtuous choices, and “Renegade” for intimidating violent choices. You’ll unlock unique Paragon/Renegade dialogue options if you make enough choices to get enough Renegade/Paragon points. Gameplay: The two main gameplay modes in Mass Effect are: Fighting in 3rd person and having dialogue conversations with characters. I didn’t find the combat in Mass Effect 1 very compelling. At first, I was delighted at real-time combat, when I was expecting KOTOR turn-based combat… However, I quickly lost interest in the cover-based third person shooting and tried to beat the sections as quickly and with as much cheese as **** relation between Character Levels, Gear, and Skills, in regard to doing damage to enemies really didn’t interest me, so I just auto leveled up and equipped whatever new gear I found. The principle of “I see Green Numbers, I equip it” prevailed. When you’re not running around ducking behind cover and shooting the bad guys, you’ll be running around talking to people instead. Flying from planetary system to planetary system (There's a whole set of solar systems you can visit and examine, which at first overwhelmed me but you’re not able to actually land on EVERY planet in a system). Sometimes you’ll also need to navigate on the planet by driving around the All-Terrain Vehicle called the “Mako”, sometimes you’ll be unlucky enough to need to fight in the Mako too, my preferred method of combat was to try snipe people from as far as possible and dodge the incoming blaster bolts… before I take too much damage and need to redo the whole section. (I’m not bitter, you’re bitter!) Conclusion: On the whole Mass Effect was a good experience, my first playthrough took me roughly 20 hours… Had I owned Mass Effect instead of Knights of the Old Republic I would have played this game religiously and learned every little nook and cranny. Coming back to this game as a newcomer to the series… I’d recommend Mass Effect to anyone who wants to play a classic title, for nostalgia sake, or for the story/lore of Mass Effect. …There's more to the review, but I'm out of Characters...

My favorite mass effect, when you take the time to understand the magnificence of its story, and start exploring, you will realize how good it is, its missions are impactful

a master class in writing and pacing ! while the characters may be lacking in some capacity and could be more flashed out, it still delivers through incredible dialogues and ambiance. sometimes it feels weird and awkward and yet familiar and nostalgic. amazing introduction to the world and the stakes of mass effect !

prob the only piece of media where it's villain actually scared the **** out of me, this is how you pull off a cosmic horror.

The combat is, in hindsight, a tough pill to swallow, but the original Mass Effect is one of the best written video games I have ever experienced, and probably my favorite sci-fi world. Its sequels definitely honed the character relationships, but the world-building in this first entry remains untouched. For what its worth, I think the combat is passable enough, and I also found myself enjoying the Mako exploration sections that so many players chafed against. But regardless, this is not a game you play to shoot up bad guys. It's about the world, the species, the factions and the intrigue that connects them all. And its unparalleled in that regard.

I don't know why or how I got into this franchise. I know it happened late. I thought it would be too old for me, but my God, I’ve found a franchise that will stay in my heart forever.

A revolutionary title that melded the styles of third person shooters and western role playing games in a gigantic outer-space extraterrestrial setting. The influence of this title resulted in many titles copying the third person slash rpg battle mechanics. The story is part one of a three game series where actions are weighed. Depending on your reputation in the game different playthroughs will result in different outcomes. The rpg mechanics are not skimped on with this third person shooter. Bioware really mastered their "Paragon/Renegade" formula of involved dialogue options and this game also features a romance option that is well done. A finely crafted experience that leads to the next title phenomenally. The combat and the story while great were certainly out performed by the following title in my opinion: Mass Effect 2

Best game in the series in terms of character development, world building and story. Gameplay and combat are clunky and the inventory management within the game are awful but with that being said, it's the best game in the series.

Mass Effect brings gamers a wonderful universe ripe to explore. While its gameplay falls shorts in some areas, the story and setting all but make up for it.

It's a bit janky, especially with the hindsight of the sequels in mind. But, goodness gracious, the greatness is on display from the beginning. The world-building and lore are a level on their own, second-to-none. The characters feel like real, living people. The combat and customization are flawed but promising. The main story starts nobly but then takes a dark turn that is exciting and foreboding.

An awesome game, one of the best sci fi games ever made. The dialogue can be a little slow but other than that its amazing.

Last but not least for me, the first Mass Effect.
The reason why I didn't play this game before playing Mass Effect 2 and 3 is because I already got spoiled on it, but since I played and loved Mass Effect 2 and 3, I just had to play the first Mass Effect as well.
Unfortunately, Mass Effect didn't age very well compared to its sequels, most gameplay elements feel either bland or tedious, from the shooting mechanics, to the driving system and useless sprinting, it's all kind of weak.
However, Mass Effect excels in other areas, such as the story, characters, world building, set-pieces and sound.
Mass Effect's story is great, it's probably the best in the series even if it's not a high bar in my opinion, and it has a decent pacing on top of that.
The characters are good too, they're not developed yet because they're in the beginning of their story in this game, but they're likable nonetheless and they all play crucial roles.
One of the best parts of the game for me, is the world building and the universe in general, it's just fantastic, very detailed and interesting.
Also, while the graphics look a bit outdated, the presentation and the music is still immersive even to this day.
Something interesting I noticed in the game, by the way, is the minor technical issues I had, particularly with the sound of the game. Not a big deal of course, but it's worth mentioning. Pros:
+ Very good story
+ Engaging characters
+ Awesome world building
+ Beautiful presentation Cons:
- Awkward gameplay elements
- Minor technical issues Narrative: 8/10
Gameplay: 5/10
Content: 7/10
Characters: 7/10
Music: 6/10
Graphics/Audio: ?/10 Final Rating: 8/10
- Great -
Mass Effect might show its age in some areas, but it's still a great introduction to the legendary Mass Effect trilogy. Do I recommend it?:
Yes, definitely, mostly because of its superior sequels though.

Looks like a movie and plays like a great sci-fi novel. The shooter-based combat system might feel simplistic at first, but it's really a boon that great enhances the pacing of the game. The action is quick and you constantly feel that you're on the move.

I played 3 hours then switched to Mass effect 3, to see if anything good can actually be learned from how bad the 1 started. To not waste my time. Perfect, as it did save me time, which I uninstalled before playing ( after choosing " jump into action") i had a 15 min cut scene without gameplay. Very unlikely will I ever reinstall this games and recommend to anyone.
just the mentality of bad unskipable cut scenes is enough. Horrible unskipable cut scenes.
Combat is horrendous, feels really bad, weapon switch feels really bad, aim feels really bad. Movement is terrible. Speed feels bad, SPRINT is disgusting to do. Whenever you hug a wall your character COVER, and now its not aiming anymore. It takes a LONG time before it gets back up as you hold down the key to backtrack.
Just a nightmare. After playing the first few mission, boring discussion and trash cut scenes. This game is really worthless and a waste of your time.

"Mass Effect" tem uma história maravilhosa, personagens cativantes e uma trilha sonora excelente.
Sem entrar em spoilers, os plot twists do final da história são muito bem conduzidos.
A parte visual é um show aparte, a primeira vez que você observa a Citadel é uma emoção inigualável. Contudo, o jogo possui um ponto fraco que são os "Uncharted worlds", bem vazios e com mecânicas de exploração tediosa.

One the best trilogys of the gaming industry for me. The first One is not perfect but is very close. I played it a lot of times. It was beautifull. The history capture my attention from the beggining.

While not a terrible game, a rather rough start to an otherwise amazing trilogy of games. The game has an amazing world and lore, and the main story (while somewhat uninspired) is rather solid. However, many of the games characters are rather dull for a Bioware game, and many of the games choices only have an effect in later games in the series. The character building is a bit of a mess, and the third person combat is genuinely bad. While there is a decent variety of side quests, the environments of many of them are copy paste, and some boil down to collectathon quests. Again, not a bad game. However, it genuinely feels like a prologue to more interesting adventures down the road.

An epic galaxy-spanning sci-fi adventure, Mass Effect marries the styles of RPG, classic choose-your-own-path adventure game and first person shooter to create an absorbing and well written story that makes you feel like you are the lead character in your own personal space opera. The adventure element works better than the combat thanks to fiddly aiming and the weapon overheat feature that seems to exist solely to leave you defenceless at exactly the wrong moment, but as a whole it's one of the very best games of its type.

Playing many years later. I was extremely stunned by how immersed I was in this game. I couldn’t believe what I was playing half the time. You simply can’t beat this writing and the execution of it through dialogue. I haven’t played older RPGs like Fallout or Baulders Gate, so I can’t say this game has the best writing in gaming. But so far out of the games I’ve played. This game and its sequel have the best writing and storytelling I’ve experienced yet.

CUDO!!

Mass Effect has become one of the colossal cult-classics of video gaming; and rightfully so. The game has great level design, endless narrative possibilities thanks to its multi-choice format storytelling that made it become iconic in the first place. BioWare knew what the hell it was doing when it decided to use the experience they got from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and decided to apply all that to an original IP for the company. And the result: a classic that forever changed gaming in 2007. Mass Effect can debate-ably be considered Canada's biggest important of the 21st Century; at least in multimedia storytelling which the franchise has since gone on to 'effect'. Commander Shepard, The Reapers, Garrus, Tali, Urdnot Wrex have all gotten well-deserved love and respect from gamers everywhere. Mass Effect is a special franchise that feels like it's always been there in the background.

Mass Effect 1 (LE) on PS5 Game completed : Nov 30, 2021 Playtime : 17 hrs I played its original for few minutes because i was young back then but completed it for the first time in its remastered version. It holds up inspite it is more than a decade old. If you are a fan **** theme like star trek or star wars like myself, this game suprisingly delivers. It could still compete even to todays standard but its far from perfect for a reason this game is too old and for remasters, there will be some aspects of the game that is impossible to update. And this is the case for mass effect 1. The inteface is outdated, the overall gunplay is clunky and its progression system is not as appreciatable. These could only be change on a remake version and thats completely fine. Overall, it is still a unique and a must play even today. Remaster : 10/10 Story : 8/10 Overall gameplay : 7/10 Progression : 6/10 Phasing and replayability : 8/10 enjoyment : 9/10
