While mastering the intricacies of its 3D rotation might take a little practice and its refusal to explain systems was thoroughly wrongheaded, Hyperforma still managed to keep me playing with its high-tech zero-g pinball action and electric artwork. With just a little tweaking, this one would be a must-play for Switch owners – it doesn’t feel quite like anything else, and that alone is worth something.

Hyperforma gets so much right with its simple and immersive setup that it's hard to put it down once you start playing; a true indie gem.

Hyperforma is constantly stunning in terms of looks, but you’ll spend too much time wondering what you’re supposed to be doing.

At its core, Hyperforma is a very creative game, with some interesting mechanics and fantastic audio. It’s easy enough to play although the concept starts to wear a little thin over time. There’s also a bit of a learning curve at first – and indeed throughout – as a lot of elements aren’t well explained. Still, this is a fun ride while it lasts and should be one to consider if you like something a little different – and you’re spatially aware.

Hyperforma was well-received when it released on IOS last year and it's a genuinely inventive and stylish little puzzle game that adds enough to the tried-and-tested block-breaking format to make it worth seeking out, if this type of thing is your cup of tea. Unlocking skills as you progress does render a little of the challenge obsolete as you can choose to let tactics take a back seat and just blast away at blocks to brute force the victory but, if you play within the rules and try to clear all those tricky side challenges, you'll find a tasty little puzzler here that's well worth the small entry fee.
