Hey You, Pikachu!

Hinging on a technological gimmick and the Pokémon license, the game falls well short of the standard set by previous Pokémon titles.

But if you're looking for more than a distraction for the kids, a learning tool perfectly disguised as a game, then consider Nintendo's Hey You, Pikachu!.
Once you give it a closer look, Hey You, Pikachu! is a highly addictive game that both children and adults can enjoy.

A video game that doesn't even get the one gimmick it has going for it right. Hey You, Pikachu! provided me with what was easily the most pointless, functionless and painful experience I've ever had playing a video game. The voice controls it paraded around as its biggest selling point were barely functional, making for a plodding and lifeless experience. I cannot justify giving this game a "0" due to it having perfectly acceptable graphics at the time of its release - however, it comes damn close to earning that grade, as the game has close to no other redeeming features. This game is not anything close to fun, and playing it is a true test of one's patience. It should only be played by anyone who has a morbid sense of curiosity about what was seen as a technological marvel around the year 2000, and serves as nothing more than a curious relic that was indicative of where voice recognition technology stood at that point in time.

In metascore I would rate this a 57. The game microphone is good but the system doesn't read it well. Watching and talking to pikachu is a pain and the gameplay gets harder and harder but it is pikachu so I just have to give it an okay rating.

All you can just do in this game is watch the many fourth walls getting broken everytime you try to talk to Pikachu. Sounds fun, right? Well, not when the first hour's already over.

Hey You, Pikachu is bright and saccharine, the videogame equivalent of a "Brady Bunch" marathon with a pre-sugared cereal chaser.

This game is great is you want 2 get frustrated at how stoopid pikachu is. Everything else is great, voice controls are great and it's great if u want 2 laugh at how stoopid pikachu is, it is the best rage game of all time.

I'd rather be out mixing cement than having to deal with this control scheme.

Unlike "Seaman," this game's voice recognition is pretty primitive.

Gaming Age
I had a difficult time even playing this game for more than half an hour. It's simply so boring and mundane that I can't see anyone over the age of 10 enjoying this game.

Even if you dig Pikachu's act, the "game" is ultimately a spirit-crushing, mind-numbing exercise in tedium.

boring, and most the time pikachu goes off to lala land and does nothing you tell him to do!!! It is a great idea, and they should make a new version of it with better technology, but dont pick up this old n64 title.

SummaryFor the first time ever, you can actually talk to your favorite Pokémon. Tag along with Pikachu as it goes through its daily routines, taking field trips, going fishing and having picnics, becoming better friends with each passing day. Pikachu will hear and react to the words you say. The more you speak the closer friends you'll be! * ... Read More
