Gratuitous Tank Battles

PC PowerPlay
As a singleplayer campaign, Gratuitous Tank Battles is a glancing hit, but it still offers a deep and intricate take on tower defence. [Aug 2012, p.59]

LEVEL (Czech Republic)
This tower defense / tower attack combo is an above average title for its genre. It would be a perfect fit for tablets. PC controls make it almost too easy. [July 2012]
Gratuitous Tank Battles is acting like some classic tower defense title. However, after some time there is this "shout boo" and you have to create your own units and you need to unlock the very important weapons through the very same battles as well. After a lapse of time you'll find out the very well-made core of the game, and if you are a toyer you are going to get a lot of fun. Although, if you are looking for some instant tower defense entertainment, you should look elsewhere.

Tower Defence or tower offence... Whichever you like, both executed quite well. As with gratuitous space battles you can design your own units as well. However while there is more to the game mechanic it does appear to have lost some of the simple charm.

Its excellent customisation and clever AI makes for one of the best tower defence games around. [Aug 2012, p.104]

This is an excellent game. I admit, I love tower defense games AND I enjoy games where you customize your character or units, so this game was absolute heaven for me. It's rare to find a tower defense game that lets you play both sides, rarer still to find one with complete unit customization, nd the ability to edit your maps is just extra bonus content as far as I'm concerned. Unlike a lot of Tower Defense style games, GTB actually has a fairly epic feel to it. it's great to zoom in and see all the detail, then zoom back out and see vast armies swarming to attack your defenses (or vice versa). Highly recommended, and given there is a demo, there is really no good reason not to check it out.

superb re-fresh of the normally quite predictable tower defense genre. I love playing as the attacker, and now I've played through the whole offline campaign, I think I actually prefer that mechanic to the traditional tower defense role. When you zoom in, the graphics are superb, even on my C, which frankly is a bit long in the tooth right now. This game is a hidden gem, give it a try if you are vaguely into strategy gaming.

A nice tower defence, with a strong editing component. Some flaws and lack of variety lower the overall score.

The balance in Gratuitous Tank Battles is spot on and the A.I. is very good. It's possible to create your own maps, which is always a good thing. It's just a shame that there isn't a multiplayer mode to test your skills against others.

A really boring TD game that wanted to be original.

Gratuitous Tank Battles may do a brilliant job of catering to some idiosyncratic gaming tastes, but I don't think it has much to offer the tower-defender or the strategist.

Excellent game, the ultimnate tower defense game in many ways, due to the options that are available and the built-in editor. How any site could review the game is 'boring' is beyond belief. Highly, highly recommended.

Pricing at the same as Torchlight1+2 combined is ludicrous. I mean the game is alright, it's your default tower defense game with inferior graphics. You get literally thousands of those for free on any flashsite. Would consider trying it yourself on a sale. But don't spend more than 5 bucks on this.

Lets take it step by step: Interface: Shoddy bland and boring. Gameplay: Basic flash tower defence with an option to play as an "attacker" which is even less enjoyable. Unlocks: RNG. Worst idea ever. Especially after GSB and its fairly cool system of currency and unlocks. Items: Lazy and uninspired. "Laser I, Laser II, Laser III Laser IV" and so on. Generally customisation is wildly gimped if you compare it to GSB... Although according to the developer himself this game here isn't a sequel... Which brings me to the thought that for 15 quid nominal price this fairly basic flash game, with customisable maps and somewhat customisable units, is more of a joke (at our expense) than a ripoff :) Thus the score.
