God's Trigger
God`s Trigger is a top-down shoot-em-up bullet hell which challenges your quick thinking and reflexes. Playing solo is ok, and playing with a friend is great, but it only supports local co-op. Frustration will reach high levels but will keep you motivated to get your sword bloody even more.
Co-op certainly helps make a dull game slightly less dull, but the nicest thing I can say about God’s Trigger is that it’s serviceable, and given how crowded the market is, being competent simply isn’t good enough.

It’s difficult to recommend… unless you’re a glutton for punishment or Satan himself. [Issue#162, p.82]

The game started out pretty fun. I think I played on the lowest difficulty setting because I want to have a somewhat casual experience. Initially it was quite fun game of hide and shoot. Especially the close checkpoints supports this system and made the game absolutely incredible. however, as you proceed across levels it quickly becomes very annoying because the checkpoints are spaced out further and further, while the enemies just rush at you increasing the risk. Considering the game gives you only 1 shot to survive with no health bar it become pretty annoying within 30 minutes.

Hotline Miami-style overhead shoot 'em up that's not as hardcore but is still rather reliant on trial and error. Nice graphics, an interesting story and upgradable characters go a long way toward making it stand out from the herd, however.

I liked the idea of the game, where planning is important, but the button layout accompanied by the fact that it cannot be configured killed any interest in the game. Only thing that was controlable just fine was the menu. Unfortunately, I was looking forward to play the co-op.

A fast, fluid murderous romp through a comic book style world. Gods Trigger does enough to stand out in this niche genre of top-down twitchy twin-stick shooters.

While there some tweaks that could be made that would perfect this title, these are vastly outweighed by the game’s sheer amount of style and substance. If you’re a fan of Hotline Miami, or in fact, any top-down shooter, then God’s Trigger is a must play, especially if you have a spare controller and a player 2 to hand.

The game is demanding but at the same time pleasant. I hope that the next updates will make it possible to return to the game often. The upcoming online mode should do this. The lack of such an option certainly deterred some players.

When it comes down to it, God's Trigger works very well. Its occasional awkward moments with gameplay are eased by the fun of different powers and a quick checkpoint system, and its cheesy story and tone are infectious in their enthusiasm.

Some of the more unique levels are a blast to play and the core combat is fun from start to finish. The cooperative focus is also a great bullet point in its favor, and it’s implemented in such a way that the single-player doesn’t feel lessened because of it.

God's Trigger is like if Quentin Tarantino adapted a Garth Ennis comic book and turned everything up to eleven. The story may not be that interesting and the music could've been better but the action is all that matters here and it's great. Playing the game on co-op is an absolute chaos and we loved every second of it.

Ultimately, God’s Trigger’s grindhouse kitsch is effective because you can believe it was made by deeply inspired people who barely knew what they were doing. Blundering adrenaline has an unconscious authenticity which, by its nature, translates to a gnarly player experience. Misadventure is technically still an adventure.
