Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn takes the weighty feel of a Soulslike and adds mechanics that allow constant flexibility and experimentation. It also engagingly tells an interesting narrative without breaking the flow of the gameplay.

Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is a very tasty hybrid, not without flaws, but for the operation set up, it proved to be extremely fun and well packaged. The artificial intelligence of the enemies needs to be reviewed and a whole long-term structure regarding weapons, armor and skills is missing, but for the hours that will keep us glued it is that completely made game, which runs too fast with the plot and makes it almost a 'appendix, but in the end the fun is elsewhere.

Challenging Soulslite, but the fights are never unfair or completely overwhelming.

Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is a breath of fresh air when it comes to the Souls-lite genre. The challenging combat, unusual lore, and well-crafted environments blend the new with the old in an original way. While the gameplay could be more refined, the game succeeds in making the genre more accessible. The story is rather quick on the draw at the start and the ending trails off suddenly, but the relationship between Nor and Enki is enough to carry the bulk of the narrative. As a first entry, Flintlock is off to a solid start, and I look forward to having more adventures with this unlikely pair.

Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is an enjoyable and highly accessible Soulslite. A44 created a great entry point for the genre, not to mention an exciting fantasy setting that mixes black powder, magic, and influences that go beyond the usual European medieval style. The combat is fun and won't cause you to break any controllers. The story is also worth following, although the game perhaps end up too soon, leaving narrative and gameplay possibilities to be explored by a sequel.

Flint and steel accompanied by some otherworldly magic of rogue gods. This is what defines the death-infested and movement-dependent world of Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn. A “soulslite” title from the creators of Ashen doesn’t really innovate on the action-adventure RPG genre but presents players with unique and captivating setting, neat combat mechanics, epic soundtrack and quite a lot of beautiful landscapes to explore. Will you dare to challenge the gods?

This final review of Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn has been a roller coaster of conflicting feelings. The end result is of decent quality, despite various structural limitations, and it manages to shape a balanced experience with a substantial amount of content. While it certainly doesn’t stand out in terms of character or personality, and numerous narrative questions remain unanswered, the accessible and somewhat enjoyable gameplay compensates for these shortcomings just enough. However, it does leave a bit of a bitter aftertaste.

Although far from perfect, Flintlock is an explosively fun experience that beautifully blends the action-adventure and Soulslike genres—all while dabbling with a bit of 3D platforming. It will appeal to those who love going the extra mile to see what hidden items they can find in hard-to-reach nooks and crannies. If you can wade through Flintlock’s performance issues, you’re in for a gorgeous ride.
