Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Fallout 3 is how effortlessly it combines so many gameplay mechanics, storylines, characters, expansive environments and complex in-game intricacies into one fluid package.
Yes, Fallout 3 is a lot like Oblivion (with guns!), but it's a superior game in nearly every way, as it features a more engaging storyline, impeccable presentation, and hundreds of hours of addictive gameplay. While the jury is still out on whether or not hardcore Fallout enthusiasts will accept the game as part of the storied franchise, Fallout 3 is a must-have title for most RPG fans, as well as one of the finest games of this generation.
Fallout 3 offers freedom without sacrificing a focused story. It delivers fantastic combat without forgoing a deep role-playing system. The characters you meet are engaging and oftentimes hilarious without feeling out of place in this harsh world.
Ultimately, Bethesda triumphed over all odds with Fallout 3. Defeating hype and the need to live up to the past, the Fallout 3 team created an intensely profound world and worthy successor to the franchise.
From the hollow wind blowing down through subway tunnels, to the radioactive dust clouds swirling throughout the wasteland, up to the buzzards circling the encampment where the bodies of 30 slave traders lie; Fallout 3 is as much a game as it is a training sim for the coming apocalypse.
It’s a game that rewards the long-haul with deep, inventive missions which eschew the usual fetch and kill structure, ensuring that the many hours spent in Fallout 3’s wasteland aren’t wasted. [Christmas 2008, p.88]
A melhor ambientação pos apocaliptica da historia de todas as medias, estetica maravilhosa, sidequests 10 de 10, historia principal meio bagunçada mas cheia de elementos legais, é incrivel explorar, a capital é maravilhoso.
OVERVIEW: Fallout 3 is one of the best entries to the Fallout series of games and a good RPG to lose yourself in the world of. What the game lacks in technical game design and innovative gameplay, it makes up for with an large, freeing world and charm. GAMEPLAY: 7/10 - The core gameplay of Fallout 3 is very simple and easy to understand. The game gives you a lot of freedom with these basic mechanics however, meaning you can squeeze plenty of hours of messing around out of the game. There is a decent amount of jank to the game but this is to be expected and arguably adds to the experience when funny things happen in the game. STORY: 6/10 - The main story in Fallout 3 is fine, but doesn't do much to go beyond that. The stakes feel very low most of the time due to the aforementioned "charm" that Bethesda's characters have, even the villains of the world. In addition to this, the story just simply isn't that interesting. On the other hand, most players likely aren't going to be playing this game in hopes of a beautiful and inspiring story, and for that reason the story is passable in this context. SOUNDTRACK: 9/10 - While I am doubtful that many players are coming to Fallout 3 specifically for any of it's original pieces, it's soundtrack is very enjoyable to listen to via the radio while you explore the wasteland and loot settlements. All of the songs chosen fit the same vibe and are a blast to listen to. CHARACTERS: 7/10 - The characters that you meet in Fallout 3 all for the most part have the loveable "Bethesda" charm that most players have come to expect from the developers. While most of them aren't particularly fleshed out, they work in the context of the game and are fun to communicate with. GRAPHICS/VISUALS: 6/10 - Fallout 3 is an old game (2008) so obviously will look worse than a modern game, however I think the intentionally bleakness and realism of the game from the time hides this a lot worse than a lot of other games from a similar era that simply hold up better (and looked better at the time). Graphics aren't everything but this game definitely is far from a visual masterpiece. CUTSCENES: 7/10 - While there isn't many cutscenes in Fallout 3, the few that are present are perfectly serviceable and get the point they need to across. Overall, Fallout 3 is a very enjoyable game and while it isn't the best game technically, it is more than worth picking up and playing. There is a certain charm only contained within Bethesda games that players yearn for, and this game along with Oblivion and Skyrim are great ways to get that experience.
This game is incredibly buggy. But I think anyone who knows anything about Bethesda knows that their games are complete bug-fests.
Now with the obvious out of the way, I honestly have only done a full play-through once, I have tried to play through the game over, and over, but I can’t bring myself to do it. The beginning is really boring. Most side-quests weren’t interesting to me. And near the end I just wanted to finish the game.
And especially now that time has passed, this game has not aged well, even though Fallout: New Vegas which uses the exact same engine and with almost the exact same mechanics still somewhat feels fresh.
I would give this game a 5 if the game wasn’t so buggy. But since it is 4/10.
