Beneath Enclave's pixel-shaded graphics, we find only a trace of a game worth playing. [Fall 2002, p.117]

This game is indeed all we hoped for and a little bit more.

A pretty average action-adventure game with some amazing visuals and sound effects. If the game had its gameplay toned up a few notches, then this could have been a must buy game.

This game is the definition of hidden gem. As you can see by the player scores they are much better than the review scores. The game is simple to learn and hard to master, the definition **** game. I found the controls and software above average for the year it was made. Most games from this period seem very dated and clunky but this one runs smooth and is very responsive so imo holds up even today. This game has 25 levels and you can unlock a dark campaign after beating the initial light campaign. Further as you progress you unlock more characters to play and based off how much gold you found in each level you can equip them better - your load outs are your choice based on what you found in previous levels. The further you get in the game the more strategies are available to you. This makes going back and playing a previous level worth your while as exploration will yield more gold and also reward you with new equipment to choose in future levels. You can see by the gamer complaints that the game is punishing and doesn't have enuf save points just didn't really play the game well enuf. It's not like the game is broken it's just at first glance this game might appear to be a brainless hack and slash game but it's not. Essentially it's an arcade version of demons/dark souls without the rpg stat boosting. All in all i find it his a must own original xbox game I can't believe the game was not more highly rated initially. Its baffling. Now that the game is at bargain bin prices I highly recommend this game. For the record I am playing with the original console not using backwards compatibility with a newer system.

The graphics, relatively speaking, were excellent upon its release. The combat in this game was fun and the rewards for exploration and clearing levels appropriately were well worth the effort. It must be said, however, that this game can be simultaneously punishing and **** you die, you start over, and you will die a lot! However, the accomplishment you feel for pushing through yet another level stands a bit taller than most other games, with completing the game (minus cheats, of course) standing high on my list. Definitely worth a look from the bargain bin!

While the rest of the world pants about the nonsensical "Morrowmind," the pinnacle of action role-playing is right under their noses. Wake up and smell the mace. [Aug 2002, p.58]

The graphics are sound and the audio is decent, but the gameplay is just not enough to make this a great game. There is poor movement, it’s a poor attack engine, and there were just too many holes in the gameplay.

With such awesome visuals, it's hard to comprehend why the clipping problems are so horrendous.

Chances are a good number won't be able to forgive the incredibly high level of difficulty--or, rather, be forgiven by it, especially considering the inability to save in the middle of the game's long levels.

Enclave has so much promise that it's a shame it's crippled by one key design flaw. While the occassional checkpoint exists just before the battles with big boss characters, they are so rare that you may very well never see one.

The action is solid enough and there's plenty of challenge to keep you busy for a while, but key features of the game were scrapped entirely, and what's present at all is still buggy and unfinished.

The game doesn't control very well; sluggish fighting mechanics spoil what would otherwise be a worthwhile package. [Sept 2002, p.40]

SummaryIn an age long past, the rift was formed, decisively separating the lands of light and the plains of darkness by an impassable chasm. Over time the Enclave of light grew strong and prosperous, while those confined to war-ravaged plains of the outlands harbored nothing but hatred and jealousy. Now, after hundreds of years, the rift is clo... Read More
