This game has an overall score of 86. It's absolutely not an 86. It's a very basic beat em up with mild platforming and puzzles. In no way, shape, or form is this comparable to any classics. It's not a bad game, just very basic. It also doesn't do anything another title hasn't already done. One thing I did enjoy was that it had a cozy type of vibe to it. This is rare for the type of game it is. You're not missing anything special if you skip it though.

A really nice surprise to find in Game Pass.First of all, the art style is truly unique; it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but personally, I absolutely love this mix of bright **** music blends perfectly with the game’s atmosphere; it’s gentle and promotes a sense of calm (a central theme of the **** game combines a variety of gameplay elements that are well-paced by the morning, noon, afternoon, and evening **** gameplay elements are all well-managed; combat is varied thanks to spells and special attacks; the social aspect is very engaging because the characters are well-written; the puzzles make good use of the mechanics; and finally, progression is seamlessly integrated into all types of gameplay (social mechanics, combat upgrades, and puzzle-solving tools).Furthermore, the themes explored are also interesting. The small village of Hintterbung is transformed into a tourist trap, pitting industrialists against the locals. In this context, there is corruption, the abuse of influence, and scheming. Then the heroine contrasts her exhausting and repetitive past with her very fulfilling present. This leads us to reflect on the role of work in a person’s life compared to their **** strongest asset, which makes me want to play the game again, is the serenity of the setting. The game is designed to be purely soothing. And it incorporates this into the gameplay through the relaxation areas in the open areas

Do not judge a book by its cover. We are taught that at a young age, right? But we do. We are human. So when the trailers for Dungeons of Hinterberg dropped, I was not impressed. I was interested in the idea of a mix between Zelda-style dungeons and Persona-style social links, but the art style and character design really turned me off. So much so that I was pretty sure there was no way I would play this one, ever. Then Humble Bundle included it in a monthly batch, and I tried it. I quickly realized how silly I was for ignoring it.Sure, the character design never got much better in my eyes. Everyone looks like they have been a pro boxer for years, and their noses took the brunt of the damage. But the art style absolutely did improve for me, and it really grew on me. The “hatching” effect over everything gives it a modern yet retro feel that I have not seen done elsewhere. It is pretty, full of bright colors, and each of the four zones and their respective dungeons has charm.Dungeons, for me, are where the game shined the most. Each has a theme matching the specific magic you obtain in that zone. Nearly every one of the 25 total dungeons had something that tripped me up, but nothing overly challenging that required looking up the puzzle answers. I loved those “ah ha!” moments. There are clever uses of different camera types, such as a few isometric dungeons or a few side-scrolling ones. The bosses were great too; I just wish there were more. Enemy design beyond bosses was only okay—not enough variety, and not much fun to fight.I think the social link side of the game was its weaker aspect, as this is where the devs lost balance in the content. You will easily clear all the dungeons well before you max even a third of your social links. You have to actively grind more relationships if you want to, which I think is odd—especially because the combat and dungeons were not hard enough to warrant replaying. Most players will likely end up in the same situation. Some social links were great, some were okay, and some were boring. Without the big narrative focus of Persona or Metaphor, it is harder to feel connected to the side **** overall narrative was good, and it did inspire some thoughts. I love the idea of the main character trying to truly disconnect from reality, to go on a real vacation and not worry. There is a part where they mention how nice it is just to sit outside for an afternoon, and how in their normal life they feel like they always have to be doing tangible things and making progress to feel fulfilled. I relate to this a lot, and it inspired me to find ways to relax more often and just be in the moment.Overall, a good game—held back from being great by the tried and true saying: less really is more.

It's a cute, snacky game.. but I couldn't help but feel a bit bored. All the mechanics are okay, but it just lacks challenge and complexity to make it interesting. I imagine it's at the right level for a very casual gamer, but overall: simple puzzles, simple combat, simple story, simple character growth and inventory management. It's nice to have an European feel though.

Original story and theme with captivating start but it becomes a bit repetitive with more puzzles and less action/RPG elements.

I feel like I have seen this before. Quirky, hippy people talking about nothing with shallow combat and clunky movement and puzzles that aren't more complex than a traffic light. I wish the game had more Austrian influences and at least one unique mechanic. I was just kinda bored by the exhaustingly tedious, and safe conversations, that felt like the talks I had with my coworkers the first time I met them. There is just too much of this here and the combat is too undercooked and repetitive to balance this out.

very fun, sweet, and entertaining game, love the different ideas and gameplay the various dungeons offer, and as an austrian myself, i laughed my *** off at some of the very authentic cultural references in the game. Genuinely had a blast playing it

Had potential to be a way better game, still a great one though. You go around clearing dungeons that have popped up in every day society, cool concept ! There's also complex puzzle solving but most of the time not too bad you have to look things up, but you absolutely have to think most of them through before acting, once you solve puzzles, you beat up baddies & eventually the boss, then boom dungeon done, you get a stamp. Basically the goal is to go around & beat all dungeons, but also relax while doing it & make friends with the folks in town, you have day cycles but unlimited time, so you clear dungeons during the day & choose who you want to spend time with in the evening. The combat has a lot of cool abilities you can unlock sadly the controls & pace are sluggish & makes combat more of a chore than something fun I looked forward to, the puzzles & story are the real highlights of this game, not the fighting. The locals are all different & well put together, finding a place to just relax was nice.

If you are looking for a relaxing game with cool graphics then this is the game for you. The protagonist goes on to a location where magic is real. You go through dungeons and fight monsters to unveil the truth behind magic and the nefarious plot behind it. The game is also a vacation simulator as you enjoy moments and scenary and monologue is written very well.

I only played the first dungeon, but I thought that was enough to have a general idea of what the game was about. I like the graphic style, but that's pretty much it. The combat system seems rather simple. The story and dialogues are generic, but not terrible at all. This game aims for casual players, which is not a criticism. It can be a relaxing experience, one that I might have enjoyed once. I give it a 5 out of 10, because I don't think it is a bad game at all despite having played it for only 30 minutes.

Absolutely loved this game. It's got the soul of an old classic action rpg in it blended perfectly with a social element that ended up being just as enjoyable as the puzzle and combat parts. Amazing graphics/frame rate/performance and the music was also exceptionally good. A game for the summertime blues as well as therapy for the summertime blues. I can't wait to see what else this company does. What an incredible debut.

Sometimes you just fall in love at the beginning **** just with the concept alone already, this game did that for me. Before starting to play Dungeons of Hinterberg I liked the idea and wasn’t blown away by the artwork while I enjoy that it is a different style than we see a lot. However, after the first dungeon, I was already head over heels in love while that dungeon was short, straightforward, and easy. I could see already the potential and how smooth the controls of the game were. How good it felt and a peek into the people you’ll meet during this journey. And the artwork grew on me while playing through the story. It includes so many details and is so well **** Dungeons of Hinterberg, you’re on holiday in Hinterberg. Where in other small towns/villages in Austria it might be normal to have winter sports activities while on vacation, Hinterberg is special… in Hinterberg you learn how to use magic and complete dungeons during your vacation. However, it still is a vacation so you can also just take the day off and enjoy a scenic spot and during the evenings you’ll meet with all kinds of different people. And all those things will help you out with getting stronger. Yes, even taking the day off helps you out! This game reminds me of the “Persona” series combined with “Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II”. The interactions and hangouts you have with the people feel like the social part of the Persona games. With bonus points for not having X amount of in-game time before the world gets destroyed. You can keep going as long as you don’t finish the last dungeon. And the style of the dungeons reminded me somehow of Phantasy Star Online. In Dungeons of Hinterberg, there are 16 “people” you can get to know better and hang out with. Increasing your friendship level will get you rewards, but the people were so well-written that it was fun as well. I didn’t like everyone, but when getting to know them better I understood where they came from. And it is awesome that there is such a range of personalities. The quiet ones, the social butterflies, the loud ones, the cheesy ones. You will find so many different people in Hinterberg, but all with a story attached to them. For the achievements you don’t have to max out their friendships, which would mean that normally I wouldn’t even go for that. However, I finished almost all of them just to get to know them. I think I spent around 5 extra hours, just to finish most of the friendship levels. There are 26 Dungeons in Dungeons of Hinterberg. What I enjoyed so much about them is that they weren’t too long, you’ll not spend hours going through the same dungeon, while also being different from each other. The dungeons are scattered over 4 areas in the game and in each area you get 2 skills and only those 2 skills. This made sure that the dungeons weren’t too complex. It has puzzles but you also know that the solution has to be done with one or both of those skills. The first time I got new skills it took a bit of time to get used to them, but it works so well and you always know that one of them has something to do with range. Another nice thing is everything you do will improve your stats, even relaxing at the spa will in the end help you get stronger so you can get through the dungeons. This way you don’t feel like spending useless time doing something and you can just strategize what is more important to go for at the moment. The rewards from leveling up your friendship levels are so nice as well.I love how many quality of Life features Dungeons of Hinterberg has. Think about having teleport spots all over the map, so you never have to walk that far after you explore the place the first time. Also seeing chests on the map you found but couldn’t open because not having the key yet is awesome, so you don’t forget them as long as you have interacted with the chest. Another welcome feature is that you can speed up the animation of entering a zone or the switch between afternoon to evening, evening to night ect. And last but not least as it is huge, the game warns you of so many things. “Do you want to spend time with this person, that will take the whole evening” aka “Have you done your shopping before you chose this option” and other warnings like that. After finishing the story you get the chance to say goodbye to everybody, and this was such a nice feature. I cried so hard during this because it felt really like saying goodbye to them as you learn to know them quite a lot. It was so bittersweet as I was glad happy with the ending and happy to play through this game, but that also meant saying goodbye. They did a great job with how to even include that in your Slaycation. However, there were possible hints as to where the story could go next… so hopefully at some point, we will join up with the main character and go on slaycation in another city!

I had a great journey with this game, and it is actually challenging, not what I expected. The dungeons are spectacular, and you have to think carefully every time.

A great premise that is chock full of heart and charm, has a great relaxed feel and setting. The characters are unique and fun to interact with. The dungeons have a great 3D Zelda like feel that eventually become a little tedious as the mechanics aren't deep enough to support their quantity and length.
Because of how gear focused the upgrade path is the game was in desperate need of different visuals for the armor sets and weapons as you progress, you wear the same outfit/weapons visually from start to finish.
The story is solid, if predictable, but the real power here is in the setting and characters.

A great dungeon crawler with a lot of character. The dungeons are all really fun to explore and all feel quite different from one another. They are not quite Zelda level or anything like that, but they definitely have the feel of those, as they are all a nice mix of combat and puzzles. The story and setting is also very interesting, although the bad guy is very comically evil. The social aspect is fun as you are introduced to a lot of different people in town. Most citizens are interesting, but there are a handful that are just kind of unlikeable people. Getting different spells in every zone also changes the gameplay up a bit, as the hack and slash combat, while fun and more than serviceable, can get a tad stale by the end. The combat, once you have lots of gear and stats, gets a tad too easy near the end of the game. Speaking of gear, while it's fun to get new gear, the only design thing that shows on your character is the sword. I would have liked to change my look up a little bit with new gear, as your character looks a tad plain. Also, it might have been fun if there were different weapons types instead of just 1-handed swords. Overall, it's a great game that has a fun day to day cycle that keeps you engaged all the way to the end. Highly recommend it, especially if you have GamePass.

Stunning, casual and cosy dungeon crawler with a unique storyline and setting. It's a combination and love letter to some of my favourite games of all time. It reminds me of the platformer games I used to play as a kid and brought back some fond memories of Spyro/Tomb Raider etc! Would highly recommend if you want a mix of puzzles and combat encased in a gorgeous art style.

Such a fun game! I love the art style and the way it plays - it's really intuitive with the controls. The gameplay loop is great and easy to follow but also has depth to the storyline that is really relatable! Can't wait to keep playing and find out what's really going on in this town!

Georgeous cozy dungeon crawler with more to it than initially meets the eye. This was a great change from all the dark brooding games out there, with some enjoyable puzzles and a lovely setting. Included on gamepass too.

You come for the pretty visuals, and you stay for the puzzles. This game has sooo much character! So vibrant and full of color, and Austrian cultural references everywhere. Where this game truly shines though, is - surprise - the dungeons. Each area is focused on a specific skill or ability, very similar to Zelda dungeons. This makes it never feel old as there's always something to explore. I really loved the puzzles, they made me feel smart and required a proper amount of trying solutions to solve. Bosses have a decent challenge too, not just in terms of skill but also in you figuring out the trick to beat them. Game feel is very smooth and the ice world is truly my favorite. I mean, who doesn't want to snowboard in the Alps?

constantly freezes and it's boring too. mostly puzzles and climbing. this is basically every dungeon: you enter an area monsters appear you kill them usually just button mash maybe dodge now and than and move on, solve puzzles and climb than fight a boss at the end. all the dungeons are linear and boring.

This game is incredible for escaping into a fantasy world like this one with a good cell shaded feel to the environments. It has interesting puzzle designs in the dungeons, and has a sim rpg like feel with how you spend your downtime kind of like Persona where you are ranking up your charisma skill, etc. My only complaint is the NPC character designs. They are a bit bland and unattractive. Definitely pick up this game if you are a Zelda fan and like traditional dungeons with creative puzzles
