There's so much to do, and so much depth in this game. [Aug 2007, p.69]

The story is truly grand and most of the gripes could be forgiven separately. But with all of them combined I cannot recommend this game to anyone other than very hardcore RPG fans.

While NIS is known for developing and publishing games with cutesy 2D art, Dragoneer's Aria sports rather bland 3D visuals.
55
The flawed implementation of energy and mana as well as the interminably slow battle mechanics really drags down the game.

All things taken into account, the game turned out to be a huge disappointment. Being a mish-mash of games I had played before in the past, the integration of different aspects of these popular games in the genre did not bring this saga any justice.

Only grind-loving, masochistic role players need apply.

There are far better examples on the PSP all of which don’t have you suffer through terrible dialogue, monotonous battling and mind numbingly slow gameplay.

Dragoneer's Aria is a very limited turn-based RPG game. The gameplay is very basic. You can attack normally or use magic. The only different mechanic is that each character can perform two elemental attacks, where the element of the attacks depends on the element of the dragon you equip, and the mana bar is shared by all characters. The game's story is very shallow. It has some cliché elements that the game itself makes fun of, but the worst part of this game is definitely the animations, especially in the cutscenes. It looks like I'm watching someone move the characters with the mouse. It's bizarre. Besides, they don't convey any emotion because it's so crude. What saves it a bit is the Japanese dubbing, which is good (the guys don't make mistakes). Another criticism is the length of the game. I think it goes on too long. Overall, Dragoneer's Aria is a mediocre to bad game. If you want to play a turn-based RPG, there are better ones (including on the PSP itself).
