Desert Ashes
Desert Ashes is a game for strategy game virgins and beginners. Even with some of it's simplistic scenarios, you will be acclimated to the genre easily, and it will leave you with a hunger that, sadly, it cannot fill due to its short length.
Fans of Nintendo's long-running Advance War series will feel right at home with this new PS Vita game. It's a solid strategy game that is hurt by a lack of polish and a repetitive design. But even with the problems, the online multiplayer mode makes Desert Ashes worth buying.
The game is basically one long war between the Winged Crusade and the Landians, and it doesn't get much deeper than "these two sides are at war with each other."

Desert Ashes is a poorly executed knock-off of Advance Wars. Except, instead of commanding identifiable tanks, ships, and planes, each unit type is an obscure creature. Trying to learn what each obscurity actually does is the only challenge this game has to offer. The fact that it actually required the combined efforts of four artists (according to the in-game credits) to design these graphics is, in all honesty, extremely sad. The only aspect that was surprising, in terms of quality, was the music -- which was so well done, it seemed completely out-of-place in this game. Unfortunately, since each track played continuously throughout a level as a relatively short loop, even that quickly became annoying.

Having the online multiplayer on the free side of the paywall is a smart move on the part of the developer, but with limited success in finding or maintaining a game, I caution anyone hoping to use this as their online game of choice on Vita.
