Let’s be clear: the Commandos franchise was effectively dead. Commandos 3 was poorly designed and failed, while Commandos: Strike Force was simply a mistake. Twenty years later, Commandos Origins has arrived—and it’s the Commandos we never got back then. Fantastic **** game has everything any Commandos fan could want: all the characters (the Driver is back!), all the World War II fronts (North Africa is back!), and bigger, more fun scenarios. The only thing I really miss is Mateo Pascual’s original music. Apart from that, it’s a masterpiece.

What a disappointing game. I guess Origins meant to play like Commandos 1, in which it sort of succeeds, but that ISN'T A GOOD THING. The game mechanics have been cut down to the bare minimum compared to, say, Commandos 2. What is most annoying imo is the level design. The maps are large (often too large), but they are all (surprisingly) VERY linear and basically all play the same (except for one where you can steal a tank). All the key decisions are made for the player, and your role is basically just solving local puzzles with 1-4 opponents. Which doesn't get more interesting the more you play (rather more unfair - esp. the last mission). Some design elements are borderline stupid. Like the diver being able to enter the water only in designated areas. This can lead to situations where you just lose your harpoon because you shoot an enemy from the water, who's on a pier you can't enter... Or that you can't see inside a building when you select a commando who isn't in it (despite having another one inside). Or that you can't see through multiple floors, but you can multiselect through them (so you want to select people on one floor, but end up selecting everyone). AI is very rudimentary, which is especially obvious when you trigger the global alarm and a bunch of enemies come running around like headless chickens to then decide to just return to their positions like nothing had happened. The "story" is completely dull, and the occasional dialogues between the commandos oscillate between dull (high-school-theater dull) and just annoying. The bugs, omg they're everywhere. You need to save every 30 seconds because nearly every encounter is a hit or miss. Spy and driver can only melee from behind.. guess how many times approaching an enemy from a slight angle gets you killed. Your throwables (knives, harpoon, bear trap) tend to disappear randomly. Even though windows are not a thing in CO2, enemies can sometimes see you through gaps in closed doors or missing geometry. The list goes on. Remember how beautiful C2 looked? Or how catchy the score was? CO offers nothing of the sort. Everything looks the same, everything sounds the same. Moreover, the missions are so long that it becomes obvious how boring everything is. The last mission is so **** that I just cheezed the 2nd half by triggering a global alarm, having enemies run to the place and picking them off one by one with the spy. The game just becomes so unfair at times that solving situations in a traditional commando way is simply not possible. When I started writing this review, I thought I'd give it 5/10 for nostalgia. But no, this game is trash and should be avoided. Go replay Commandos 2 for the 50th time. Edit: after playing War Mongrels, I have to say Commandos is even more dissapointing that I thought it was.

Pretty boring game, definitely not for me who doesn't like wasting time and rather play something funner. If you get CAUGHT ONCE in the tutorial it makes you restart the whole fkn thing!!! WITH UNSKIPPABLE CUTSCENES!! That just made me go straight to uninstall.

Highly enjoyable and very long game massive missions with odd flaws: 1. Commandos were not assigned the original numbers. For avid fans like me that's a big issue because by instinct when I want to select the Marine, I press 3. Number 2 for me is the Sniper. Commandos fans know how big of deal it is. 2. Commandos do not change cloths based on climate. Even in the very original game back in 1998, Commandos had winter cloths in Snow and shorts in Africa. here they have only winter cloths in the arctic. Seriously? They developed such massive game to overlook something like this? 3. Probably continuation of #2. Commandos cloths in cut scenes do not match the characters. For example the Sniper has long overcoat in a cutscene while in the game has summer clothing in Norway? 4. The mission design lacks real innovation, aftewr9 mission you just feel that you are jumping from one factory to another. one harbor to another. No more exotic locations and weapons like Commandos I and II and with super huge maps and long missions it can become boring. 5. Overall there are very bugs that should have been fixed before the release, now they introduced a patch and I'm not sure what they addressed but it's a patch came too late, already finished the game. 6. The mission in Norway where we had to free partisans, They looked more like Zombies not partisans. after the release they went out and killed every single enemy without getting killed. In commandos II we had to rescue POWs too, or Shadow tactics a newer game we had to rescue farmers but we had to protect them and see them into safety, here partisans went out and killed every one, or better said every one dies in their path and game was played for us!!!! not good 7. Why are we collections the collectibles? what's the reward? Ok now the good stuff: 1. Insane graphics 2. massive maps and long missions 3. realistic guard and soldier reactions 4. overall hard game but not stalling hard 5. Realistic commando abilities like knife or silent kill for all. just not sure why Marine doesn't have a gun Good game but very hasty development and release, it needed another 2 months of quality checks and fixes before release

Day One Gamepass Releases mean guaranteed $$$ for the studios and are detrimental to the quality of the end product, Commandos Origins is another perfect example. Socialism just doesnt work not even in the gaming industry, this mess is especially bad because it was also co-funded by german taxpayer money which clearly led to hiring of underskilled developers, probably woke/dei preference...

I appreciate the work that went into the aesthetics, but in terms of gameplay, the game is a bug-riddled mess. It is hard for me to see any upgrade(again aside from the aesthetics) that went toward this game from its predeseeor, Commandos 2. So many functionalities removed, lame storytelling, inefficient hardware usage, this game has it all! It is a heavy downgrade from Commandos 2, which sadly has no proper sequel that would hold up to its name.

"Commandos: Origins" brilliantly revives the spirit of the original series, delivering a thrilling planning and stealth experience across diverse environments with rich detail. Each character has unique abilities that add strategic depth, and the cooperation between them creates a real sense of accomplishment when executing plans successfully. This game is a strong comeback for a beloved series and fully deserves a perfect score.

This game captures spirit of original Commandos perfectly. If you played the old one, you gonna have a great time. If you are new to the genre, it may take a moment to get used to it. Difficulty level is not as high as it used to be but still steep.
